xDragonWarrior #1 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) The software is called GCstar:http://wiki.gcstar.org/en/Install and I currently use it.The reason why I use GCstar instead of cataloging them with Excel is that with GCstar, you have a virtual shelf and when you add a game,It's cover goes on the shelf(a virtual version of your shelves).it does everything excel can do and more. It also catalogs board games, books, comics, computer software, mini vehicles, movies, music, numismatic(coins),periodicals, smart cards, stamps and TV shows. It even picks tonight's game(just picked Perfect Dark for me)There also is an android version so you can make sure you don't by the same game twice which also has a scanner that makes cataloging faster and easier.Try this software and tell me your opinion.I think it's the best way of cataloging your games if you don't already have thousands of games cataloged in excel or another program What are some of your ways you catalog your collection?.. goldenegg #2 Posted May 30, 2013 For my gaming collection, I just go the Excel route. This is the best option for me as I can view and edit the spreadsheet across all my devices. For my DVD/BD collection, I use DVD Profiler.
Necron99 #3 Posted May 30, 2013 I keep hearing about GCStar and yet every time I check I remember why I pass it up. just give me an installer....don't make me code or script to get it working. also, the shelves remind me of a Videoflicks/Blockbuster. my shelves look nothing like that. I've tried collectorz.com and found it a huge hassle to organize everything, especially sorting region stuff. As a program I found it easier to add every game individually with my own data than relying on the database. There is no worthwhile free version of this either. and they charge for Android/IPhone apps. Excel is still my number one choice.
per #4 Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) I curently use Excel, but I also record a lot of other info about my games as well (like chip IDs, sizes, PCB type/configuration, game IDs, ring codes and eventually checksums). Edited May 30, 2013 by per

nanochess #7 Posted May 30, 2013 I use a spreadsheet and when my collection is "stable" I print the sheets as a little catalog. Also I keep rarity, state of game, box/manual/overlay/cartridge checklist, price (in case I need to resell) and origin (in case I need more) Lately I've added some extra details like label variations. cimerians #8 Posted May 30, 2013 I use Collectorz. It's ok but it can be tedious adding games or moving your install to another PC etc.
CatPix #9 Posted May 30, 2013 I use Datacrow for all my stuff. Maybe not the most practical tool, but you can't have one almost universal tool doing all the things right.
