cimerians #26 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Just received a mail about the subscription. It will cost 25 dollar a year. Guess i'm not going to upgrade my version anymore. To bad i cannot use the connect function anymore, but i'm sure i can live with that. Nobody is happy about it on their forum. Not one positive post. I'm not paying for it not even for a few bucks a month. It will be interesting to see what he does but he wont change it and is saying that paying for the updates is optional and bug fixes are free but still your really FORCED into paying yearly for it. It used to be free updates and then maybe every 3 years a new version then he updated it back to back and asked for payment and now its flatout a yearly rate. Forget it. I just discovered GCstar today and its pretty much the same thing and it doesn't cost any money. It also looks up games on Amazon and Mobygames which is pretty cool and what Collectorz used to do a long time ago. Its very basic but I like it and I'm switching to that. Rhomaios #27 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Another RFGen'er here. I've even added a few variants/uncatalogued games myself. It's the best system for that sort of thing. Edit: The only problem I've noticed with it is that lately it's been extremely slow to load pages. Anyone know what's up with that? TheGameCollector #28 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I've just been using wordpad and sorting everything by closest release date I can find. I only add games I actually want to the list. Then I highlight the games I get using a specific color code to represent its completeness, form (digital vs physical) etc. where physical complete copies override any lesser copies. I also started keeping track on my Gamefaqs account. I might give this a try though because of that random game selector. That could be fun. I'm liking this so far once you check out the preferences. The only drawback is that if you want to organize by exact release date it puts every date on its own shelf instead of next to the nearest item on the shelf you already have. I guess for this one I'll put just the release year and no other specific date pinpoints. The other cool thing is if you want to look at variants etc, you can either scan your own stuff or go online and find a match. You don't have to just use the box cover for your art. What I'm doing on mine is putting in parenthesis its level of completion on the title. (complete), (cartridge) etc. Edited October 23, 2013 by TheGameCollector
DZ-Jay #29 Posted October 23, 2013 On Mac OSX I use Delicious Library which uses the iSight camera to scan bar codes and fill in art/information from Amazon. One Button publish to any web server: Here is my collection with a nice look: http://www.jetcitycakes.com/deliciouslibrary/ I've heard about this for "regular stuff," where you scan the barcode and off you go. Does it really support vintage console games like the Intellivision? You mean, I can scan all my boxes and it ill automatically get the screenshots, pictures of boxes, and all metadata? P.S. I currently use a spreadsheet. Not Excel, but iWork Numbers. It works rather well. I have my Intellivision games catalogued by publisher, status (CIB or loose), and "network," which was Mattel Electronics' categorization.
Metal Jesus #30 Posted October 23, 2013 I've heard about this for "regular stuff," where you scan the barcode and off you go. Does it really support vintage console games like the Intellivision? Anything for sale new or used on Amazon will come up when you do a word search. Also, you can change the Amazon store to Japan, Canada, UK, etc... if you collect import versions. This works for 95% of what I have in my collection. For anything that doesn't come up, it allows you to create a Blank entry and then type in whatever you want, including boxart. HatefulGravey #32 Posted October 24, 2013 I still go the excel route myself, well, Open Office. This allows me to keep up with much more information and I can carry it with me on my phone. If I see a game I think I might want to pick up and I can quickly search to see if I have it, what the condition is, how many copies, am I looking for a variant or just a book.... I can store much more information with faster recall times, and to me it is all just easier. I have a spread sheet with all the known released titles for each console for which I collect. On this sheet I can not only see what games I have, but games I don't have. I like this a lot. The VCS spread sheet even shows the R rating given to each game by AA. This lets me short by game, type, company, rarity, and any other information I have stored for the console in question. It took a long time to get to that point, but it is very nice when you get there.

+Lynxer2007 #35 Posted November 9, 2013 A friend told me about Backloggery back in 2011, so that's what I've been using all along. I didn't realize there were more such websites. Before Backloggery, I used GameSpot. Thank goodness I switched because GS's new website layout is terrible.

Rex Dart #37 Posted November 9, 2013 I still go the excel route myself, well, Open Office. This allows me to keep up with much more information and I can carry it with me on my phone. Still the best option! Spreadsheets are platform-agnostic, and there's no jumping ship when some website hosting your collection list goes under or decides to start charging $6/month. Spreadsheets are platform-agnostic, and there's no jumping ship when some website hosting your collection list goes under or decides to start charging $6/month.We'll after reading up at the gamecollectorz website, you don't need to pay 6 dollars a month. Just subscribe for 1 month update the program, unsubscribe, and then whenever you think a good upgrade or bug fix has been released, subscribe for 1 month again. So i keep using the program.
