JohnBuell
Shame there wasn't a crash in Europe, I paid DM 125,00 for Golf on VCS in 1985 ( from Real Kauf). What's that in $? I just found a cool page with a long historical overview of exchange rates. There was nearly a 3:1 DM to USD ratio in 1985. http://www.history.u...ts/currency.htm So your answer is that one game cost you the then-equivalent of nearly $42. Anyone want to calculate that with 28 years of inflation? Edit: Used http://stats.areppim.com/calc/calc_usdlrxdeflator.php $42 1985 US would be nearly $80 today. JohnBuell
FYI, New York Times has the story as of last night/this morning. It showed up in my news feed on Windows 8 when I logged in this morning.... http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/18/us/hunting-for-an-et-castoff-in-a-most-terrestrial-place.html?_r=

The article loaded fine for me. Alamogordo Journal Hunting for an E.T. Castoff in a Most Terrestrial Place Mark Holm for The New York Times Mark Esquero with cartridges he says he found in a landfill in Alamogordo, N.M., where Atari purportedly dumped copies of its scorned E.T. video game in 1983. JohnBuell
RT, I wouldn't have posted the link without a notice if it had been behind a paywall. But I'm glad people have been able to read it.

xDragonWarrior
So will the stuff they find(if they find anything) be crush or still intact(playable or not)?
Thomas Jentzsch
99.9% collectible crush and 0.1% intact.
AtariDude
Did the article mention when the excavation would start. I remember reading that it was going to be 6 months of work but I have not been able to find when they were planning to start.
Andre81
I thought they only have the exclusive rights for the next 6 month, so they'd have to do it this year.

Andromeda Stardust
Did they find pac-man cartridges yet? Have they even started digging yet? They need to get crackin'. At a hundred acres of land and several hundred feet deep, they might as well be searching for a quarter in the Asteroid belt. I do wish them well. It sould be great if they find the loot. Even better if they get the games VGA graded!

Andromeda Stardust
I imagine that's what the Alamogordo dump will look like after the excavation is finished: just like ET, it will be riddled with pits! Serguei2
I begin to wonder if any games they found wiould be buried elsewhere. :D :P
profholt82
I don't really understand why they would want to do this. It's not like they are excavating dinosaur bones or ancient ruins, it's crushed multimedia from the 1980s. It just seems like a massive waste of money and resources. SoundGammon
Maybe someone could do a new/hack ET, based of this dig called ET UNEARTHED!
