vcoleiro1 #1 Posted June 8, 2013 Looks like Ouya is going to have competition other than Gamestick and GamePop. Looks like there is another Android Game Console about to be released. This time its from Mad Catz - Code name Project M.O.J.O Looks like they are aiming to include a Tegra 4 SOC and to release it Q4. It will also have 2 USB ports so you can plug 2 controllers in if you want (wireless otherwise) plus it will have 16gb storage and uSD slot. IT will come with a controller and will be compatible with their suite of peripherals like keyboards and mouse etc. Here's a good story on it including photos and video of it.: http://au.ign.com/articles/2013/06/07/e3-2013-mad-catz-project-mojo-android-games-console-revealed?abthid=51b21fe946465c4144000010
MagitekAngel #2 Posted June 8, 2013 + Better hardware than Ouya - The games aren't in any way optimized for television play.
+RevEng #3 Posted June 9, 2013 The media buttons on the controller is a nice touch, as is using Tegra 4. The pseudo-mouse functionality for gaming sounds like a bit of a pain. That's less of a problem if you pick games suited to controller play, but sorting through the android market for them will be a pain. Before Ouya I would have been all over this thing for emulation and media playing. Now it kinda depends on how it compares to Ouya with price and functionality.
godslabrat #4 Posted June 10, 2013 Before Ouya I would have been all over this thing for emulation and media playing. Now it kinda depends on how it compares to Ouya with price and functionality. That's exactly what I was thinking. Competition is good, sure, but if both of these systems are competing for a very tiny slice of a very tiny pie, there may be nothing left but scraps. It could get Ouya to rethink the logic of their "new console every year" philosophy...
Karyyk #5 Posted June 10, 2013 There are a ton of small Android-based devices out there that promise Android games, but I think what sets Ouya apart is their philosophy to optimize the games for play in the living room, with a controller. Any existing game is easy to port over, but to do it properly, you have to add control support and some kind of free-to-play component, which I think makes it a little bit more compelling than all of these general-use Android devices (which this sounds very much like). Ouya is a dedicated platform that happens to run on the Android US. Something like this just isn't.
vcoleiro1 #6 Posted June 11, 2013 Actually I prefer the more openness of MOJO or the Shield in using plain Android. Any Android game can have controller support built in under Android. There is no need to do what Ouya have done, they have done it to ensure revenue as the OUYA is pretty much sold at cost and revenue generated by the locked in modded Android firmware/store it uses. I much prefer a console that charges a little more for the HW, but doesn't lock you in to their store. Being able to access all apps in the Android store is a major plus. The other aspect is that using plain Android allows you to update to the newest release sooner and easier. Ouya will lag behind as do smart phones that put their own skin over Android. vcoleiro1 #7 Posted November 29, 2014 Just a note that the MOJO is on sale at various places at the moment. On the MADCATZ website for $99.99 with free delivery if you use coupon code: MOJOSALE or on Amazon for $130 with free delivery
goldenegg #8 Posted November 29, 2014 Anyone considering the Ouya should pick this up instead at the $99 price point. All around it's a better system. It's also fully Ouya compatible, so you still have access to that ecosystem. My Ouya has been shelved since getting the MOJO.
Manoau2002 #9 Posted November 30, 2014 Can you play the valve games (portal and half life 2) Nvidia had ported to android? I know these require the tegra 4. Just not sure if there shield only.
