B0B 1ob1aw #51 Posted June 13, 2013 I'm pretty sure your trolling though, the "no business becoming parents in the first place" gave it away...Tou-che' Eric, ya got me Up until now, I did not know there was the equivalent to "Haters" in the nerd world. I'm getting visions of the Haters Hall of Fame skits on the Chapelle Show. Except the Pimps Suits are replaced with cosplay.
Crazy Climber #52 Posted June 13, 2013 So ... are you suggesting that our world wasn't cool? Damn ... no wonder I got beat up so much in Jr. High ... LOL! Well, I was known to wear a Viking helmet in the safety of my friends basement Some of the guys did the full on Cos-play (it wasn't called that back then though as far as I know) but thats where I drew the line

B0B 1ob1aw #55 Posted June 13, 2013 My two favorite LARP references, are from the movie "Role Models" and the TV show "Reno 911".
Fushek #56 Posted June 13, 2013 My two favorite LARP references, are from the movie "Role Models" and the TV show "Reno 911". On Beauty and the Geek Season 4, a Larper won (uh, he was the geek, not the beauty in case you were wondering) ... that was the season that cracked me up the most. In one episode, one of the girls was trying to explain what she was talking about when she said something about her "booty". Her geek partner walked around asking the other guys if they knew what booty was and they all replied the same thing ... "Yeah, you mean pirate treasure, right?" And by the way, how on Earth did we go from a smoky Intellivision to LARPING? I truly do love this forum!!
+boxpressed #57 Posted June 13, 2013 My two favorite LARP references, are from the movie "Role Models" and the TV show "Reno 911". Mine is "Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!" http://youtu.be/j_ekugPKqFw
RickR #58 Posted June 13, 2013 I had no idea what LARP meant until now. So I learned something new. Which is good I suppose. Lightening Bolt!
B0B 1ob1aw #59 Posted June 13, 2013 Mine is "Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!" That might be an all time best. My wife showed it to me a few months back, I laughed so hard I was in tears.
+boxpressed #60 Posted June 13, 2013 That might be an all time best. My wife showed it to me a few months back, I laughed so hard I was in tears. The Comedy Central show Tosh.0 interviewed the "lightning bolt" guy. Not sure if the video is available online, but it is worth watching if so.
Crazy Climber #61 Posted June 13, 2013 LIVE ACTION ROLE PLAYING!! It's all coming back to me now Yeah, I actually know people that did that. The furthest I went was playing D&D in the woods, which was actually kind of fun We ended up just getting ripped and climbing trees though most of the night. JasonlikesINTV #62 Posted June 13, 2013 There is a group that LARPs in the park here on Sundays. ...for the last 10+ years
Crazy Climber #63 Posted June 13, 2013 I remember going to a place called "the book trader" with a friend because they had a vintage steel breast plate he wanted to buy for LARP'n, the look of sadness in his eyes when he was too fat to squeeze into it is something I will never forget...
+thegoldenband #64 Posted June 13, 2013 If you want to see a hilarious movie that deals with LARPing, check out the Icelandic film Astrópía (aka Dorks & Damsels). Pretty funny stuff, and the plot/story doesn't always go in the direction you're expecting, which is refreshing.
RJ #65 Posted June 14, 2013 Darkon is another LARPing movie, available on Netflix. & I think X-Play on G4 did a segment on LARPing yrs back. I think Adam Sessler introduced the clip, & it was like "lightningbolt lightningbolt lightningbolt" above but IIRC one guy kept yelling "+1 +1 +1 +1..." as he hit another guy with his foam sword. Also, the breastplate story Crazy Climber wrote about reminds me of a co-worker nerd who had a Battlestar Galactica pilot flight jacket. He was chubby (& still getting fatter to this day) & the jacket was 2 sizes too small, the fastening latches/straps were straining to bust apart, & he wore it around in the Minnesota autumn & early winters.
DZ-Jay #66 Posted June 14, 2013 OMG this thread is creeping me out. In high school, I was one of the "cool kids"--at least we thought we were: we ran the computer club, the AV club, hooked to BBS's at night, talked about video games, and made computer programs for school functions. Oh, and we used to make fun of the geeky D&D kids... -dZ.
Rev #67 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) Funny thing is, Rev does that to all his Intellivisions, regardless of smoke damage or not. (I'll just say, he's not trying to clean them either, if ya know what I mean. ) The other night i was giving one of my intellivisions a really intense rub down and wouldnt you know it? My wife walked in on us.......but its cool, she joined for an intelli3way. Best night of my life! Edited June 14, 2013 by revolutionika

SoulBlazer #70 Posted June 14, 2013 I'm not sure what's funnier -- the comments in this thread, or that the geek factor is at Warp 11.
phaxda #71 Posted June 15, 2013 You INTV guys are always the weirdest ones! And I mean that in a good way. I am going to date myself a bit here (NO NOT LIKE THAT), but I was in college right when the internet starting to become a thing. I played on all kinds of MOOs and MUDs and MUSHes and Gophered and FTPed the hell out of stuff. I was a total nerd. But I always though to myself "at least I'm not as bad as those dorks fighting in the dorm hallway with their foam swords." Also: NOT A FURRY. Ahem.
