0078265317 #1 Posted June 30, 2013 I want a pocket. Got a original and color. Now I want a pocket. Saw one on ebay for 10 bucks untested. Few questions first. Is the screen the same on all pockets? Is the one without the power led more rare? Is there anyway to test it without a game? What would happen if he stuck in 2 AAA batteris and turned it on without a game? I see some on ebay with a battery symbol on the screen. Does that mean it dead or just needs batteries and probably works? Or the only way to test is with a game? I mean if was a dead motherboard it wouldn't turn on at all?
+Gemintronic #2 Posted June 30, 2013 I wouldn't bother with a seller that wont show a picture with the unit on. I can say it doesn't like rechargeable batteries but it should still work.
DNA64 #3 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) Get the Pikachu Edition! It even has a matching Printer. Oops, nvm thats Gameboy Light, not pocket. My bad. Have a look at this page for info on the rarer Gameboy Pockets. Edited June 30, 2013 by DNA64
+atari2600land #4 Posted June 30, 2013 I think if you turn it on without a game, a black rectangle would move slowly down the screen and rest in the center, as opposed to the word "Nintendo".

Yup, but that doesn't tell you anything about the condition of the system.

Have a look at this page for info on the rarer Gameboy Pockets. GameBoy Lights are insanely rare, I hope they're worth the hassle and expense of finding one. I do remember the Pocket line... very nice screen, felt amazing in my hands after holding my original launch DMG for years. I love the GameBoy line, I can see how it would be fun to collect all the variations.

goldenegg #8 Posted June 30, 2013 GameBoy Lights are insanely rare, I hope they're worth the hassle and expense of finding one. They're definitely not hard to find (usually quite a few on Ebay) and usually cost less than a good quality backlight modded system. I love my Gameboy Light, especially since it gives me the Pocket form factor and uses AA batteries instead of AAA. For those who haven't seen a Light in person, the backlight isn't very bright. It's pretty much what you'd get on Timex Indiglo watches back in the day.
0078265317 #9 Posted June 30, 2013 I just bought a red gameboy pocket with power led from atari 2600 land.
Osgeld #10 Posted June 30, 2013 Yup, but that doesn't tell you anything about the condition of the system. it tells you that it turns on and reads something from rom and the screen functions in that area
goldenegg #11 Posted June 30, 2013 it tells you that it turns on and reads something from rom and the screen functions in that area That's still not very useful. You still don't know if there are issues booting games, if the sound works or if the controller is functioning. I wouldn't base a purchase on that alone.
