retrorussell
Hey guys and gals of AA! What were the first few games you remember getting for each system you purchased? Me: ATARI 2600 The pack in was Combat. Soon after we got Asteroids and Bowling, and Golf. NES: Pack in was SMB. At the same time I bought Kung Fu, then Castlevania. Bases Loaded might have been next. Then I think Bionic Commando and Bubble Bobble. GENESIS: Altered Beast was the pack-in. Then came Sonic and Madden 1. SEGA CD: Came with Sewer Shark. Then I think I got Road Avenger, then maybe Sonic CD and Time Gal, then probably Night Trap. PLAYSTATION: I don't think I got a pack-in with mine. First I got was perhaps Namco Museum 1, followed shortly by 2 and 3. Then I think Resident Evil. Then I probably got Final Fantasy VII, then Tomb Raider, Soul Blade, Castlevania SOTN, Wild Arms and Midway's Greatest Hits. Then the Atari Greatest Hits games and Resident Evil 2. PS2: No pack-in game. First I got was Soul Calibur 3 I think. Then Resident Evil 4 and God of War. What were YOUR early game pickups after you bought the system? Gabriel
Atari 2600 = Combat, Laser Blast, Missile Command. Atari 5200 = Super Breakout. First game after was Star Raiders. Intellivision = when I first got one, I had AD&D, Utopia, Golf, and Space Battle. Somewhere along the line I got Demon Attack too. Later I had to give up all of it. Atari 7800 = When I finally got one, it came with a few common games like Pole Position, Food Fight, and Joust. There were others, but I don't remember for sure what they were. Genesis = Sonic the Hedgehog, Star Control, Golden Axe Sega CD = 5 in 1, Sol Feace, Time Gal NES = Wizardry: Knight of Diamonds SNES = hmmm. I don't remember. It was used and I probably didn't get any games with it, as it was likely intended for games I had purchased previously to play on my friend's SNES. 32X = Star Wars Arcade 3DO = Total Eclipse, Star Control II, and Need for Speed Playstation = Battle Arena Toshinden. A week later: Ridge Racer N64 = I remember buying this shitheap, but I don't remember what game I bought. I remember I was buying it for the future release of Robotech: Crystal Dreams Saturn = I bought one for cheap, but I don't remember what games I ever bought for it. I don't have it anymore anyway. Dreamcast = I bought a broken one and DOA2 for $20. Shortly thereafter, I also acquired Soul Calibur. Playstation 2 = Silpheed, Ace Combat 4, and Tekken Tag Tournament GameCube = Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee X-Box = DOA3 X-Box 360 = DOA4 Playstation 3 = I think the first game I bought for it was Ridge Racer 7 Wii = I was given Wii Sports, Super Swing Golf, and Trauma Center Neo Geo Pocket Color = Whatever the most common 6 pack was when the system was being liquidated. GBA = Hmmm. I don't remember. I think it was Namco Museum or Advance Wars. DS = I don't recall here either. I have dim memories of some puzzle game. I might have picked up the Trauma Center game with it because everyone was raving about that at the time. PSP = Lumines, Metal Gear Ac!d, and Ridge Racer. N-Gage = System Rush, Rifts, ... It came with three, but I don't remember which one the third was. 3DS = Fire Emblem: Awakening. I ordered Etrian Odyssey IV and Project X Zone at the same time. atarilovesyou
Colecovision: pack in was DK. The next game took an entire year of waiting...Turbo, with the steering wheel attachment. NES: no pack in, just the control deck. That christmas saw these gems under the tree: Cobra Triangle, Ninja Gaiden and Fester's Quest (lol, kinda a lemon but I didn't know or care at the time, lol!). Still own them today...well, except for Fester...lol! Playstation: no pack in. First game was Gran Turismo, I believe...or Metal Gear Solid? Or Time Crisis? Or Resident Evil?...hmmm, kinda odd that I can't remember. Wish I didn't trade all that original stuff in for my: Gameboy SP: no pack in, first game was Warioware. Was awesome then, awesome now! Playstation 2: no pack in, first game was Activision Anthology. This marked the beginning of my modern revival of retro gaming: the only games i ever purchased for it were retro collections (even that turdly Intellivision one, which ended up in the trash) and one minor exception, the Guitar Hero series. That was the last console I ever bought; most likely the last. Totally happy with my retro systems, doubt that will ever change!

Ransom
Hooo, boy. The memory ain't what it used to be, but I'll give it a go. Atari 2600: Pack-in was Combat, and my parents got me Space Invaders along with it. ColecoVision: Pack-in was Donkey Kong, and my parents got me Carnival, Cosmic Avenger, Ladybug, Space Fury, Venture, and Zaxxon with it. Atari 5200: Pack-in was Super Breakout, and my parents got me Galaxian, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders with it. Atari 400: No pack-in, but my parents bought me the Entertainer (Pac-man and Star Raiders), The Programmer (BASIC), and The Educator (States & Capitals). NES: Pack-in was SMB/Duck-Hunt. I didn't buy any additional games the day I bought the system. TG-16: Pack-in was Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. I also bought Alien Crush, China Warrior, Dungeon Explorer, Power Golf, Victory Run, and Vigilante with it. Genesis: Pack-in was Altered Beast. I didn't buy any other games that day (I bought it the same day I bought the TG-16 and games, so I was out of money!). SNES: I bought it with Super Mario World. Jaguar: It came with Cybermorph. My parents bought it for me when it was in limited release, so I didn't get any other games with it. I didn't buy another new system for several years. The next one I bought was the PS2, and by the time I bought it, it'd been on the market for several years. I got a couple of the "classics" titles (or whatever they were calling them) when I bought it, including the two Baldur's Gate titles and the two Champions of Norrath titles. I haven't bought a new system since then.
MH_Warrior
This is gonna force me to think... (Listed in the order I got them) EDIT: Fixed the order. NES The one my parents got for me was pre-owned from a family friend. It had Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt (on separate cartridges for some reason). The system and games I still have today. SNES First game was Super Mario World, the pack-in game. N64 Embarrassingly, it was WWF War Zone. Don't have it anymore, kind of wish I did but bah gawd were the Acclaim wrestling games terrible. Game Boy Color Bought this with Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. PS2 Bought this with SSX, easily the best launch game for the system and still a blast to play today. The series got goofy, but the first one is still rad. GBA I honestly can't remember the first game I got for this. SMS An old friend bought a massive Sega lot off eBay, including a Master System, Genesis/Sega CD and Dreamcast. He didn't want the Master System so he gave it to me. It came with a whole bunch of games including Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Black Belt, Hang On/Astro Warrior, Altered Beast, Thunder Blade and a slew of others. Gamecube Packed in with Super Mario Sunshine, but bought Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee with it. Both games rock. Xbox 360 Sadly, it was Ninja Gaiden 2 (the new one). I do NOT like these games. Wii The same two games everybody else got: Wii Sports and Wii Play. PS3 Bought off my sister. She had a handful of games including Ratchet and Clank Future and Need for Speed Carbon, along with Sonic '06. Guess which one I no longer have. Atari 2600 When my friend gave it to me, it only had one joystick and no power supply. Once I found one, I hightailed it to my local used game store (The Toy Box... represent!!! ) and loaded up on some essentials like Asteroids, Yars' Revenge, Combat, Stampede, Frogs and Flies and a ton of others. Genesis My most recent system, a Christmas gift from my wife. She also got me Ecco, Lion King, Aladdin, Columns and NHL 95. Lentzquest
Colecovision/2600: We were a mid-crash family, late 83-ish I think. I was very young. My dad brought home a used Colecovision with the 2600 expansion module and a whole slew of used games. Probably 30 or so in all. Good times. NES: Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt and Ghostbusters. Lynx: California Games, Gates of Zendocon, and Chip's Challenge. SNES: Super Mario World and Pilotwings. F-Zero came shortly thereafter. Game Boy: Link's Awakening. Jaguar: Cybermorph, Doom, and Alien vs. Predator. Genesis 3: Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition and Earthworm Jim. Playstation: Worthless demo disc pack-in (Death of the concept of pack-ins imo. Thanks, Sony) and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. These were oddly enough the only games I ever had for the PSX. The unacceptably long load times of MKT turned me cold towards the system altogether. MKT was the whole reason I even bought the thing and it was a colossal disappointment. I pretty much stuck with bargain bin Jaguar, Genesis, and SNES games at that point. That was it for me until the last several years where my interest in games has been renewed. I've since gotten into the PS2, 360, Wii, and countless other older systems. The first games I get for them doesn't stick with me though like they did when I was a kid/teenager. Intellivision: Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack (pack-in) TI99/4A: nothing Just a cassette deck to save programs. Colecovision: DK (pack-in) Venture and Cosmic Avenger. Atari 5200: Super Breakout and Pac Man (both pack-ins) NES: SMB, Duck Hunt & Gyromite (all separate carts packed with system) Everything else like the SMS, Genny, SNES, Lynx, C64, Bally, Vectrex, Apple ][, Famicom, PCEngine Duo, etc, etc, etc I got much later either at garage sales, flea markets, thrift shops, and Ebay. Only exception is that a friend gave me a model 1 Fairchild Channel F with a few carts in the early 80's, which I sadly no longer have. I did replace it, much later, with a model two and a lot more carts. Edited July 5, 2013 by darthkur
Chuck D. Head
I am only going to count systems bought before I really started hoarding a few years back. 2600 - Bought used with a small stack of games, but the first one I popped in was Basketball (just played this last night, beat the computer 58-2!) NES - SMB3 pack-in Genesis - pack-in was Sonic, but I bought Toe Jam & Earl and DeCapattack at the same time N64 - pack-in was Mario 64, bought Pilot Wings and Shadows of the Empire at the same time Gamecube - Zelda compilation was the pack-in, I think I bought Wave Race Blue Storm and a few others and all were opened at Christmas. Wii - Wii Sports and Excite Truck That was all the systems I bought as a normal, rational consumer. The other 50+ consoles have showed up since about 2009.
