Commodore games on cassette

Recommended Posts

I acquired these tapes and unit with my Vic 20. Never once played games on cassette before but these have never been used and i'm wondering if it's possible to put games on these and play them this way. How would I go about doing that. I also have a C64.

It is very possible to do that. There is a program called "wavprg_installer.exe" (look here: http://wav-prg.sourceforge.net/wpfaq.html) that takes a prg file and plays it as an audio WAV file. So then you just hook up a tape recorder to your audio out, play the wav file and record it, then load it on the VIC or C64. Be warned though....tapes are SLOW. But it does work...I've done it myself. Easiest to do this with a laptop. And you'll need a nice tape recorder (I have one on my old stereo).

The one I have here shown in the pic above has record. But that may not work because of the connection? I'll have to find another that can use the jack.

There's not much apart from getting the right volume level to stop you just playing the WAV straight into the tape deck with a cheapo car stereo adapter; the rig i used in

was previously tested on a C64 as well.

The ones in your picture won't work to make the tapes. Only to use them.

To make tapes, you need an audio cassette recorder. Like those found on an old-school stereo.

No problem. If I don't have anything I can use, I'll just pick something up that'll work.
