I generally encourage homebrew authors to release game binaries. Sometimes it's nice to hold off a binary release a bit, especially when boxes are made for a game, in order to recoup the cost of printing. This is truer today than it used to be, since so many people have Harmony carts. But the decision is always left up to the individual author.

..Al

I agree with Al on this sentiment as well. We all go through a lot of work using our free time and trouble to make these, so it makes sense to delay the release of the BIN for a little while. Besides Albert does all the sales work for it as well, so I'd hate to do something that'd interfere with it by perhaps releasing it too soon.

Well, I will stick to it.

Me too - the open atmosphere makes the resulting games just that much better. Without cd-w's insight, the castles in Medieval Mayhem would have stayed like this:

Instead of becoming textured like this:

And I highly doubt I'd have come up with the slick flicker-free 14 digit score/lives for Space Rocks that Omegamatrix' devised.

There are many other examples in my projects, but I need to run some errands during my lunch break.

I need to come back to this topic later so I can see if the carts been released yet. So much reading. So little time. :) good job with the game the video looks incredible and from what I understand you released source too.

Cart will be in the AA store upon release. There should be a big banner on the front page of AA whenever the store gets updated. This has been a slow year so far since literally nothing released since the Portland Game Expo last year. I am hoping the store gets a huge update whenever Albert gets around to it. So many excellent homebrews on the horizon, many of them completed.

Hey considering your such a great homebrew atari 2600 game maker could you or someone else teach me how to compile one (In a video would be great) also I love the Aqua Zone music!

Thanks. I've programmed with BASIC in one form or another since I was 9 years old, so I have almost 30 years experience with programming with that language, plus I'm a super creative type too and good with numbers. You would have thought I would have had a career in video game design or something, but I'm not a fan of the new stuff, except for what Nintendo mostly puts out. When I was trying to figure out what my career was going to be, video games, at that time, were going in a direction that I didn't care for. So after numerous computer based jobs, I decided to head off on a creative career that entertained people and became an animator instead. It's my other passion.

Well, now going from that tangent, I have put up the BAS for Princess Rescue in another thread. I don't recall where it is though, but it's around here somewhere. You can look at that. There is some REM comments in it, but not enough to really get what I was doing in a lot of it. Maybe some day I can do a blog or something with a step by step method on what I do to make a homebrew.

Just a quick update for those not in the loop: there is currently an effort to hack/update the Princess Rescue engine into a non- IP infringing or at least a "fair use" parody game:

Sprybug, I hope you give neotokeo2001 your stamp of approval. It would be ashame to let the Princess Rescue engine go to waste.

FYI, Sprybug was involved in this, but after changing some sprites, it seems he got too busy to continue and can no longer help. :)
