JI2 down

Recommended Posts

Naw - it just means the flamers will let the bile build up for a flamewar explosion when JI2 gets going again... :(

Hello,

As I'm helping AtariHQ sometimes, I know what's wrong here.

If you prefer a technical explanation it is this...

Somehow, the hosting company has screwed up the (UNIX) UID

permissions on the server, and the AtariHQ no longer corresponds

to that of the files, or vice versa. The scripts and the data are all

just fine, but until the hosting company sorts out their mistake,

then the server will not be able to execute the posting scripts...

If you prefer JI-II style paranoia and conspiracy theory it is this...

Government forces working with leading Jaguar developers have

decided to take the unprecedented move of hacking the AtariHQ

servers so that nobody else can flame them, or advertise their

competing products, say insiders. Others claim that Underground

forces have taken the board down in order to stop publicity for

popular new Jaguar products. Insiders working with Sony and

Nintendo deny links with them, but they would do wouldn't they.

If you prefer a ridiculous by science fiction explanation it is this...

Due to the very large number of flames posted to JI-II in the past

the temperature of the servers providing the service has risen to

such a level that the tachyon based cooling systems which control

the nuon emitters for new messages have broken down. Once a

new supply of Vogon quantum limiters arrives, this will be fixed. :ponder:

Whatever you believe, check back soon, they should fix it soon...

Regards,

JustClaws.

When you get them fixed, care to point them my way? I'd kill for a nice N501.

There's a guy selling N501's on ebay (around 20 of them) for $79.00 plus $10.00 S&H. I think that's a lot easier than killing someone. He says they are sealed and new.

Thats the guy I bought mine from. It works great. Only thing I don't like is that it wasn't sent in a box for shipping. The label was put right on the dvd player box and shipped. The only reason I didn't like this, was because I keep my boxes and want them to look pretty.

That's pretty standard. I got mine back when they first came out from Best Buy, and they shipped it to me with a label pasted on the box.

Sometimes they ship stuff to the stores from the warehouses that way too and you get a shipping label on the box from that and you bought it at the store!

The first day i posted on that terrible message board i got flamed for asking a question - a question to which everyone thought i shouldve known the answer to but since i wasnt much informed with alot of the shit around my question everyone felt the need to bash me for quite a while on one question -

flaming never stops on that piece of shit board - thats why i stopped posting there a long long time ago and found AtariAge thanks to Gunstar.

it was nice to not get flamed my first post here :)

of course nowadays im getting flamed for soemthing else ;)

I'll agree, this forum is much better than JI2 any day of the week. It does help that AA is moderated... :D

JI2, or Jaguar Interactive 2, was the main hub for Jag enthusiasts for many years. I've been on it for over 5 years myself, while some people were on the original Jaguar Interactive message board several years before that. It's main problem is that it's mostly been unmoderated, which allowed all kinds of trolls and flamewars to linger on well past their expiration date. Since this board is pretty well moderated, there generally isn't ever a problem here.

Thunderbird, I've contacted that guy before, but he refuses to ship outside of the US except to Canada.

Oh, and sorry about being somewhat harsh about the scatbox, was having a bad day, and.. well, sorry.

Hello,

Jaguar Interactive II is back, the hosting company has fixed

the CGI-BIN operation, but unfortunately not the FTP access

so AtariHQ cannot do any updates, but it's most of the way!

Cheers,

JustClaws.

Well, a Whois lookup revealed this tidbit:

Database last updated on 26-Sep-2003 11:52:17 EDT.

So, guess it was time to re-register the name? Still, an interruption in service really blows.

I don't think the domain expired, it appears to be valid through March 2005. As far as I know you can only purchase domain names in one year increments. Could be that DNS information was updated, maybe they're moving the site to a new server?

For what it's worth...

It's about 8:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 - Atari HQ, JI2 and the classic message board are all not working.

www.atarihq.com takes me to that ridiculous White Shephered domain

And both message board go to the US Search or whatever the hell it is.

Since I "moderate" the classic Atari forum (as in I delete all the porn and spam) I'd like to know what's up myself.
