t.skid #2 Posted February 26, 2003 Clint, I don't think it could help but on German eBay often there is Falcon on auctions, and sometimes you could take it at fair price. But there's a problem about the 220V PSU...
Clint Thompson #3 Posted February 26, 2003 t.skid You know, I checked most of the eBay sites out yesterday like that I didn't even really think about the voltage being a problem... but I did take into consideration that shipping would be insane.... so I just try to keep it in the states for myself. There's was someone selling a Falcon package a week ago or so on eBay, didn't hit the reserve, asked him about it multiple times and haven't had a response, blah... You have one t.skid? not wanting yours of course, just asking... Clint Thompson

No re-course if you don't win it on e-bay and pay with PayPal. You gotta jump on the next one to come on e-bay! I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya! Atari_Owl #5 Posted February 26, 2003 Clint, I don't think it could help but on German eBay often there is Falcon on auctions, and sometimes you could take it at fair price. But there's a problem about the 220V PSU... Actually that MAY not be a problem. I bought my Falcon in the early days (4.01) in the UK and used it happily here 220V. Then when i was in Canada during most of 94 i took it with me and it worked perfectly over there too on 110V. So i have a good feeling that at least some of the PSUs were switching. Can't hurt to ask cause most of them will have a 110-220V 50-60Hz label on the bottom anyhow But of course i'm not guaranteeing thats the case with every Falcon
Ayreon #6 Posted February 26, 2003 hmm.. according to the label on the botom of my falcon it's a 220-240 ~ 50HZ 0.5A 120W PSU. I bought it in the Netherlands and came with ATARI Netherlands warranty, but the bottom says it's a UK machine. I'll check the PSU itself when i got to open my Falcon for placing a FPU. Clint Thompson Yup, I have a Falcon030, and I'm happy of it . 14Mb and 120Mb HD; I've already a bigger hard disk to mount inside (2GB), but before I need to buy Hard Disk Toolkit 8... I understand also about shipping cost, it could be very expensive to the States; but, from German to Italy, shipping cost are very low.

Like i say, mine was a VERY early one(TOS 4.01) that i got in Leeds in early '93, and it definitely worked in Canada without any need for transformers etc. I'll look at the label on it tonight and see what it says exactly. Atari_Owl #9 Posted February 28, 2003 D'OH! Forgot, will look tonight instead. Sorry
Ayreon #10 Posted February 28, 2003 lol.. no problem.. I'll check wich TOS is running on my falcy. I haven't connected the bird yet, since the Dutch ATARI meeting last weekend.

Ayreon #12 Posted March 2, 2003 Alright.. i dismembered my Falcon in order to place an FPU. No difficulties with that, but it wouldn't boot again. After taking it apart again it worked.. Hmm? AH! the shielding made contact with my memory expansion. After a little course: "creative with plastic" , it was solved and my Falcon flies again. It uses TOS 4.02. After having a good look at the PSU i don't think it's suitable for 110V. Although I'm not sure. The oscilating circuit on it might be able to handle it, but there's no text or anything that indicates that it can. So i won't try it and watch it oscilating itself to death. Atari_Owl #13 Posted March 9, 2003 Hmmm Well i checked my Falcon and on the bottrom it only said 220-240V. However, it did work absolutely perfectly in Canada. Thats no guarantee that later ones would though, just that its a possibility. Cheers
Ayreon #14 Posted March 9, 2003 Yeah you never really know with these kinds of PSU's. The oscilating circuit can adapt to the lower voltage and handles the different frequency of oscilating for a right voltage output with ease. I read somewhere that someone used his european 220V TT on 110V for years, so ATARI might have used the right kind of PSU When you're not willing to try, i guess you can pick up a dead cheap ST or something and mount it PSU into the Falcon.
