BillyHW #1 Posted July 29, 2013 Are the Berzerk and Frenzy (arcade version) maps randomly generated, or is there a finite set of pregenerated maps? Also, what about the home versions on the 2600, 5200/A8, ColecoVision etc.? Do they work the same way or differently?
PacManPlus #2 Posted August 3, 2013 They are randomly generated: http://www.robotron2084guidebook.com/home/games/berzerk/mazegenerator/ I believe the 2600's mazes are the ones that are pregenerated (I think there's only 4) Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 5200 uses the same maze generator as the arcade. The 7800 version uses the exact same maze generator as the arcade You can even follow the same path and get the same mazes. Did you know that in the arcade Berzerk, the left most column is slightly wider than the other four. I had to eliminate this extra space (hardly noticable) to make it fit on the 7800 screen. Bob Interesting. I noticed that on the ColecoVision Frenzy, the centre column is wider than the rest. Not sure about the arcade. I'll have to check MAME. I have it for MAME but I usually play the Coleco version cause of the soundtrack.
