mkiker2089 #26 Posted August 2, 2013 How about Neo Geo CD? It will be cheap to get most games for if not all. Or Neo Geo X, that would be even easier.
famicommander #27 Posted August 2, 2013 Neo Geo CD is absolutely not cheap or easy to get a complete library for. Neo Geo X is in that it has a tiny library (one Mega Pack or five individual multigames, plus what came with it) but it's massively overpriced and the emulation is poor. You'd seriously be much better off playing the SNK Compilations or Neo Geo download services on Wii/PSP/XBLA/PSN. If the price of the X came down and they improved the emulation via firmware updates I'd consider it but the docking station thing it comes with is pretty undesirable for me. I would want a standalone handheld -- I have an MVS arcade cab+UNIBIOS and a Neo CD for when I want to play Neo Geo at home.
JamesD #28 Posted August 2, 2013 What about the Atari Lynx? Did it have a lot of titles? Or are handhelds not of interest here?
metarog #29 Posted August 2, 2013 The Tapwave Zodiac physical game library is only 8 games. There were a bunch of digital games which are tough to find although most or all are free just not available. You can find all 8 games for under 100 if you are lucky. onmode-ky #30 Posted August 2, 2013 It's questionable whether you would really want to collect for it, but the Mattel Hyperscan from 2006, along with its appropriately tiny library for a quickly failed system, can definitely be had for less than $2000, even seeking out the rarest title. If you also intended to collect all the randomly packed cards associated with the systems' games, that seems like it could also be done for less than $2000. I don't know how many different cards there are (maybe no one knows), but for $2000, I'd hazard that purchasing large quantities of the card booster packs could get you all produced cards . . . and also a crap ton of doubles you couldn't get rid of. onmode-ky
