trevDesigns #1 Posted August 1, 2013 Does anyone have an idea how many were produced? Are they more rare than a Heavy Sixer? Obviously not as collectible, but somewhat of a nod to the bygone era of things being produced in the US.
+iesposta #2 Posted August 1, 2013 I have asked, but no one seems to know. I scored one off eBay to mod for svideo. I won't do that to my 2 Heavy Sixers, they operate just fine. I spotted the yellower paint color, (overseas ones are more orange), and hoped for a heavy. Before getting it I didn't know Sunnyvale light Sixers existed. Jess Ragan #3 Posted August 1, 2013 I'm glad somebody started this topic. I opened up a light sixer for some elective surgery, and let me tell you, this thing ain't light by any stretch of the imagination. The RF shield looks like it could survive a bomb blast. I was expecting thin sheets of metal wrapped around the processor, but this looked like the stove pieces Michael J. Fox wore as armor in Back to the Future III! I'm sure this is a light sixer... it's got the slightly modified Atari logo, the more angular front, and a disclaimer on the bottom that it was made in Taiwan. However, that incredibly thick RF shield has got me thinking that you'd need a forklift to move around the heavy sixer.

+iesposta #5 Posted August 1, 2013 A Heavy Sixer has a LOT MORE plastic and a little more metal. All 6 switch Ataris have big metal shields. It wasn't until the 4 switch redesign that sheet metal shielding was used. Cost cutting ate away at a great product, sacrificing image output along the way. My Heavy Sixers look better than any of the 3 different AV mods I have done, except for a bit of interference which can be removed with a ferrite clip at the end of the RF cable. And the downside of having to use an SD tube display.
