J.koellisch
When having a look at the tag of my 2600 jr i wondered about the serial# details: On the pre-printed area there is an"199" and a stamped"4" = 1994. It looks like a typical production year part of the serial#. But i aleays thought the production was stopped some years before. Maybe this is just a wrong interpretation but i am curious now. The console is a eurpean model. Does anyone know how to read the sign?
Syntaxerror999
2600 does hold the record for longest production run of a console and I do believe they were made up to the mid 90s and sold in countries not quite up to speed technology wise. CatPix
That's interesting. I always heard that worldwide production stopped in 1991 and the last games were released in 1992 (official Atari production, not talking about 3rd party copies and games)
fiddlepaddle
I thought the "4" meant 1984 and the "199" meant the 199th day of the year or something like that...

J.koellisch
OK, i managed to add a photo of the whole serial tag. How is the serial# interpreted correctly?
Mister-VCS
My late 2600 JR ("lunchbox" says: © 1992 Atari Corporation) has the "4" in the SN in combination with "73 94"... The first Atari 2600 JR systems had the © 1984 Atari, Inc. (Ireland). The "1994" in the SN is not the year of manufacturing.
Serious
I think the jr came a few years after 84 First time I remember seeing a Junior was around 1987 at Kay-Bee Toys, along with the game Taz.
R.Bear
Mine doesn't appear to have a manufacture date anywhere. Shame, I was curious. Is there any way to determine how old it might be from the SN or anything else on the sticker? I don't really know much about them. If you don't mind opening the case, you can look at the production dates on the chips. This will give you, at least, a "not before" date for the production of the Jr.
