Star Castle Arcade - Beta Release

I'm sure whichever one wins will look nice. Really awesome the number of submissions so far. I personally like the one with the green chick on the cover art despite it has nothing to do with the actual gameplay. Will the artwork be decided by popular vote or will an appointed judge decide?

There is a naked woman in the arcade game as well as this 2600 release.

And no, that is not a lie.

One of the best stories of artwork creation I've ever heard.

That's awesome! How do I see it? Easter Egg cheat where I hit some random sequence of buttons, or do I have to become like, super good at the game and reach level X or score Y?

Hidden in plain sight!

The star pattern of the coin op is a nude centerfold.

The programmers taped one up and put dots outlining the lady!

Her head is the upper right and legs point to the bottom left.

It's one of the things that when you see it, you always can see it.

The centerfold is from the February 1980 issue of OUI.

That one's my choice too. I could never see the pattern in the starfield (still can't, and OUI was never my kind of pr0n anyway), so I didn't make the connection. But I think that label captures 1981 in arcade game marketing pretty well. (There's one other that does a good job without the boobage, but I miss how trashy arcades were back then, something even Funspot can't come close to capturing.)

I never saw the orig picture, but it is like the 2nd row far right, flipped with knee farther out.

Going left to right, left foot, right knee, fiddly-bits, left arm, chest, head. :)

Does someone have an actual screenshot of the original arcade? I'm having a hard time trying to visualize it.

Well, the starfield in SCA is very similar to the arcade game, though I still can't see it. I don't think it's a "use your imagination" thing, I think it's an "if you're the sort who sees naked bodies in everything, or has seen the original centerfold circa 1980" thing.

LOL! I used to be like that as an adolescent. Still am to this day somewhat. Every time I saw two circles, bam, instant boobs!

Take for instance this fire hydrant...

There are a number of high-res copies of it on Google Images (I specified size >= 1024x768). I looked it up again just this afternoon but still couldn't see it. Now that a few people have specified what shape to look for, sure, I can sort of see the outline.

Makes the "Kirk's Girlfriend" label even more apropos, in my book.

I seem to remember an interview years ago with Skelly where he spelled it out, but while searching around yesterday I couldn't find it, and saw claims on different pages that it was from January, February or June 1980. I don't think OUI was quite the cultural touchstone Playboy was (though one issue description I found mentioned discussions of George Carlin and bar fight etiquette, so now I'm curious), so you're not just gonna find a torrent or newsgroup with all the old issues meticulously scanned from front to back -- and based on the kinds of vintage pr0n I do like, it'll be tough finding accurately-labeled scans of them at all.

I found references to February 1980 or 1980 in general so far. Can you post the links for January and June?

Also I found the centerfold often mentioned, but not always. I can PM the picture I found, but I better don't post it completely here. :)

Guys, I just released version 3.40 of Javatari: http://javatari.org

Star Castle Arcade should work now, including the highscores.

I had no idea how the flash memory saving/loading worked until I contacted Thomas and Chris for help.

Thank you guys for the information.

Regards,

Peccin
