mjarnold7 #26 Posted August 23, 2013 mjarnold got the question of the day in "Will Intellivision Productions produce cart based games sometime?" They said they have some ideas and plans to release carts, but the small market is limited and they doubt that there would be 200+ enthusiasts willing to pay $50 for a game. They think it's best left to hobyists Thanks Jason! I'm a star now? LOL!
mr_intv #27 Posted August 23, 2013 You hear the craziest things in chat rooms, I wouldnt believe any rumors. True, but other then the odd rumor it was boring as hell in there....
mr_intv #28 Posted August 23, 2013 (edited) Thanks Jason! I'm a star now? LOL! If companies like Elektronite can produce games why can't Intellivision Productions develop some new carts and make some money? Maybe not huge $$$ but I'm sure they could succeed somewhat. Rev #29 Posted August 23, 2013 They want to move on to the future. Not a bad idea, leave the past to the hobbyists!
mjarnold7 #30 Posted August 23, 2013 But they can allow Elektronite to produce cart based games for them...
mr_intv #31 Posted August 23, 2013 A Flashback like console would be a start.
+intvsteve #32 Posted August 23, 2013 I only lurked. Lots of reminiscing. Interesting from a software guy's perspective regarding how they did things vs. today. I wonder what they actually profited on their direct to tv units. Won't speculate on margins of carts, but they do have a point, realistically, on how much product they could move w.r.t. other products. But really, they sold a million of those mostly crappy direct to tv things? Yeah, the second one was better...
Atariboy #33 Posted August 23, 2013 Wish they'd release a Wii U compilation and go all out on it to get as many games as possible included and the emulation as perfect as they can.
Games For Your Intellivision #34 Posted August 23, 2013 Just for the record, it wasn't my company that changed the price on the cartridges at the last minute, it was a different one. Keith was saying they have plans to do carts, but it isn't super high priority for them.
Games For Your Intellivision #35 Posted August 23, 2013 And, Dave Warhol's remark is a bit curious, because he knows (or has forgotten) that we sell our games for 70 dollars.

+cmart604 #37 Posted August 23, 2013 They said production was in the 5000 units range. This is even more interesting. I always thought it was around 10000
JasonlikesINTV #38 Posted August 23, 2013 So this is interesting. Does this mean Keith is ok with homebrews? They seemed to support the idea of homebrews, but also emphasized copyright issues. I interpreted it as their support for original homebrews that don't infringe on intellectual property. They kept mentioning the difficulty with untangling complicated copyright issues as obstacles in releasing games. This came up after a Radofin/Aquarius question as well. Ignorama #39 Posted August 23, 2013 Did they say anything about future plans? If they dont want to make carts for the Intellivision, what will they do? Seriously, I dont need the 500th port of Astrosmash to play it on another device.
JasonlikesINTV #40 Posted August 23, 2013 This is even more interesting. I always thought it was around 10000 I'm sure either is possible. It was a quick answer off the top of his (Keith, I think) head. He didn't put on his reading glasses and pull out his abacus or anything Still, either number provides decent context of Spiker's rarity, especially relative to homebrew/3rd party releases which rarely exceed 500, and are as low as 50? I wonder how many League of Lights, Robot Rubbles, Deep Pockets sold. With the exception of rare versions of 4tris, I assumed these were the rarest games. Maybe Illusions, Spina, Samegame'11? I get the impression that these weren't as popular as others.
Games For Your Intellivision #41 Posted August 23, 2013 They said that they plan to do cartridge releases, but it isn't a big priority for them, as they expect that they will only sell 500 or so copies. Of course, I think Keith is wrong, because they have thousands of facebook likes, and I suspect that they would do better than that. Hopefully he picks up his feet a bit and gets the cartridges out soon.
Rev #42 Posted August 23, 2013 Do you guys think if intv productions released some plug n play that a good controller and some built in games AND a cartridge slot it would sell good?

Bill Loguidice #44 Posted August 23, 2013 Do you guys think if intv productions released some plug n play that a good controller and some built in games AND a cartridge slot it would sell good? I can't say anymore at this time, but both Intellivision and ColecoVision fans have something to look forward to in the coming months. Forget the cartridge thing, though, or anything with removable media. The fact we're getting anything in that regard is a huge plus in my book, removable media or no. Rev #45 Posted August 23, 2013 Well, whatever is coming, i hope it has a new controller! And maybe a cart slot could be modded in? :-)
Bill Loguidice #46 Posted August 23, 2013 Well, whatever is coming, i hope it has a new controller! And maybe a cart slot could be modded in? :-) I agree the former would make a lot of logical sense, but the latter is not going to happen, sadly. Just sounds like another closed infrastructure system where you can't play your own games (cart or ROM). I understand why for legal reasons, but it's so.....borring! Bill Loguidice #48 Posted August 24, 2013 Just sounds like another closed infrastructure system where you can't play your own games (cart or ROM). I understand why for legal reasons, but it's so.....borring! You sometimes have to get things started in the first place and test the waters for the really exciting stuff to happen. With that said, if things worked out where, for example, there were new controllers that also worked on the classic consoles, that alone would be worth the price of admission... Hypothetically speaking, of course.
catsfolly #49 Posted August 24, 2013 Just sounds like another closed infrastructure system where you can't play your own games (cart or ROM). I understand why for legal reasons, but it's so.....borring! If they come out with something that is running the original code through emulation, that would be a big step up from the previous "games hastily reprogrammed for an NES on a chip" systems that they came out with years ago... Games For Your Intellivision #50 Posted August 24, 2013 It better not be those NES games in the system....especially when they refused to use Carl's NES Intellivision emulator to run REAL Intellivision code on those plug and play disasters. I'd love to see Match 5 in this system.
