Godzilla #1 Posted August 25, 2013 Win a free atari 2600 cartridge from The I.M.A.G.I.C. arc by naming your favorite pre-crash game for an Atari system (or an atari arcade or standalone,) Winner will be chosen at random! www.facebook.com/theimagic Also, I am raising money for area childrens hospitals as part of a local team if you want to check it. www.facebook.com/extralifejax I'll be playing 2600 for 25 hours straight (or as long as I can make it :-) )

enthusi #3 Posted August 26, 2013 I have to agree with Thomas there. Charity actions are good though. These days its pretty simple as well to set up free webpages/boards which are not linked to any closed social media sites. Titanpads are a funny/simple alternative, i.e.. http://titanpad.com/nTyy91ww3v
Godzilla #4 Posted August 26, 2013 Sorry if you don't like facepalm, tj All my local friends are on it and it's the only way I'd be in touch with them. Also I don't have time to manage lots of things. I'm barely anywhere as much as I want to be (Got a concussion followed by PCS (that has not gone away and is over a year going now,) and it effects everything, my focus, my fatigue levels, memory, etc. Still, if you can stomach it, I will be giving away a free 2600 cart (And the odds are pretty good!) As an added bonus, if an Atari Age member wins*, I will let them pick which cart they get for free from a list of games I was going to choose randomly from (No pac-mans and pitfalls ) Also, I am paying for shipping, so it is 100% free *You must contact me here so I know I will say this, though, I have gotten a lot more traction, response and interaction about the International Musuem of Arts in Games and Interactive Creations there than I have here. (Which still surprises me,) The extra life jax team does not require facepalm, though You can go to the web page and sponsor me (100% $$ goes to the charities!) Here is where you can directly sponsor for the event http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=49511

Godzilla #6 Posted August 26, 2013 Yea, the odds are still ridiculously low I don't even think I've hit D20 level! (Yes, this will be decided with my tabletop gaming dice :-) )
LidLikesIntellivision #7 Posted August 26, 2013 Although I hate facebook I posted there. And H.E.R.O isn't exactly pre-crash...
Thomas Jentzsch #8 Posted August 26, 2013 Sorry if i came over too negatively. I just hate any private or public organization with passion which gathers my private data to spy on and manipulate me. We have too little left of democracy and freedom already to give away the little rest that easy. Political issues aside, doing charity for a children hospital is generally a good thing. I am myself supporting the education of a child in the 3rd world too.

jetset #10 Posted August 26, 2013 I really wish people would stop making Facef*ck mandatory for all kind of things. Seriously? Half the planet uses it so if you want exposure you'd be silly not to.

jetset #12 Posted August 26, 2013 Mandatory is the problem. Using Facebook isn't Mandatory last I heard. In this *particular* case the way to get something FOR FREE is via facebook.
Thomas Jentzsch #13 Posted August 26, 2013 Using Facebook isn't Mandatory last I heard. In this *particular* case the way to get something FOR FREE is via facebook. I am not sure if you really want to discuss this seriously and if this is the right thread for that. I found FF mandatory for participating in an increasing number of occasions. That's what my comment says.
jetset #14 Posted August 26, 2013 I am not sure if you really want to discuss this seriously and if this is the right thread for that. I found FF mandatory for participating in an increasing number of occasions. That's what my comment says. Not necessarily discuss it...but I am being serious, (not sarcastic meaning). You mention having a problem with information gathering on Facebook...welcome to the internet. Every website practically does it. Facebook gets picked on because it's popular, not because it's unique in its tactics. Like here in the States, WalMart is the mustache twirling villain in the black suit and hat, yet 99% of the major retailers do the VERY SAME thing WalMart does. difference being they're the most popular, so they get the lions share of the hate. It's silly really.
Thomas Jentzsch #15 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) I can (at least try to) control my data. I have no FF account, I do not use GMail, I don't have payback cards, I am using NoScript and Ghostery etc. pp. But by using FF I would give away the already very limited control I have left. FF is definitely even worse than Google. You effectively have to give out everything of your private life if you want to use it. enthusi #16 Posted August 26, 2013 (edited) The internet is all about open information (depending from which perspective you see it Accessible for anyone without payment. In FB you pay one way or the other. You have to register and apply to their general terms and conditions which are a very bad and sad joke. Really. Im ok with people being on FB if they want to and know what they are doing and losing. But it is a closed community, even if joining might appear to be for free. Edit: didnt see that Thomas already replied. And I share his views in this. But this should not be about FB, so I better stop Edited August 26, 2013 by enthusi
