Another World
Planetvb is hosting a Virtual Boy coding competition. The compo will run from Sept 1st until Dec 31st 2013. The winner will get their project released on 20 physical cartridges, complete-in-box. The VB has been extremely well documented. You can find everything you want to know about the hardware over at planetvb. There also exists code examples, tutorials, documentation, a coding environment, and more. Developers can use emulation to work on their projects. I am sure planetvb members would be happy to test on actual hardware using their Flash Boy linkers. The Virtual Boy is a really fun system to use and has a lot of potential. All it needs are some creative coders to release some new games and applications for the system. Another World
The first released demo to come out of this competition is for F-Zero Maximum Velocity. The demo runs at 25fps on actual hardware. Due to a hardware limitation with the VB, it has been abandoned. Yet, it is rather impressive and an indication of what type of projects could come from this competition. Read more about it: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5365&forum=13 The second project announced is a full 3 act port of Snatcher, including the Sega CD intro. This project is only a discussion at this point, but the developer promises a demo will be released before the close of the competition. If you know any retro developers, gamers, or Virtual Boy owners, please let them know about it.
+Gemintronic
I hate hoaxes like this. We all know the only person who knows how to program the VB is atari2600land.
+nanochess
I've read the rules of competition and it's a bad idea to ask for source code of entry if they want to receive more entries. +atari2600land
Thanks for thinking of me. Actually, I was working on something for the competition, but I might not enter if too few people do. I'll wait and see.
