Atari mode E-Flicker, anyone heard about it

Looks like it's in some A8 format, unfortunately the link in the text after the video clip doesn't seem to work

 

 

Anyone heard of this, is it some sort of new gfx mode or just some new way of displaying hi rez video content on the A8

XL-Paint mode, named so after the paint program which first used it.

 

It involves interleaving two mode E pictures, one monochrome, and one with 4 chromas. The result is 160x192x16 colors.

Video captures, modern LCD TVs or emulator frame blending options often make these flicker modes look better than they actually are. But full motion video in these modes often makes the flicker less obvious since you tend not to focus on individual areas of a moving picture.
