AMD processors are being used in Microsoft Corp's upcoming Xbox One and Sony Corp's next-generation PlayStation game consoles, both set to launch later this year.

All i can say is....very interesting, there again, this isn't the first time MS have gone with AMD, i recall that windows XP was designed with AMD processors in mind

And an interesting departure for AMD as well....PC sales must really be that bad

When I saw this topic I though the forum might have suffered catastrophic data loss requiring a backup from last year to be loaded.

Been hiding under a rock Carmel? Not only has it been known for months, we even know how many cores they have and at what speed.

It's purely a cost-based decision by Sony and MS. And as for the article's main point, it's a natural progression. x86 architecture is getting on a bit. It is currently far more powerful than ARM but one of the main reasons for the decline in PC sales is that people are buying tablets - most of which use ARM.

Once ARM processors start to approach the speed of current desktop x86 CPUs then x86 will be consigned to servers.
