+intvsteve #151 Posted September 27, 2013 Yeah, key layouts are always a matter of personal taste. And thanks Dave, I found out that TED just serves when I am in the right position to return. But damn, this guy is really tough, I just get points with net rollers until now It's clear that we must all bow to intvdave's stunning Tennis prowess. I've been pulled away on a few other projects lately, so SPT has gotten an unfair shortage of attention. I finally have managed to score a few points, but have yet to win a game, let alone set or match. I keep forgetting to start in SP mode and then tune T.E.D. down to 'Simpleton' (which is more my speed ), so that may have something to do with it. JasonlikesINTV #152 Posted September 27, 2013 These games just keep getting better! The best games, IMHO, have always been ones where you get out what you put in. I have been historically bad at reading manuals, but I always appreciate games so much more once I do because of the explanation of gameplay and strategy suggestions....not to mention the artistic beauty of the art and occasional fantastic backstory. It's funny, because I work in a semi-technical job where it's essential for me to read and sign off on a decent amount of auditable documentation. Professionally, I read manuals all day. A few weeks ago, the Lady and I built a dining room set and I spent like an hour reading all of the manuals before opening any boxes Maybe I'm just so excited to play new games, I forget about the manual for a month or so Next manual for me to read.....Spina. I just got my upgraded cart. I hadn't played it too much previously and I know it's not rocket science, but I think I'm missing some essential aspect of the game. I fly, avoiding the rain, and pollinate the flowers. Not sure what is the penalty of getting hit by rain drops and have no idea what's going on when I fly through the green stems of the plant. I'm sure it's bad, though Time to RTM...

I'm sure it's bad, though Time to RTM... I think you lose some pollen when you hit the stems. My skillz have atrophied so badly after so long playing only games like Astrosmash and 4-Tris with any semi-regularity that even the upgraded Spina level 1 is a challenge. The original release was definitely too easy on level 1. I think the main problem is getting greedy and trying to get too much pollen.

Not sure what is the penalty of getting hit by rain drops and have no idea what's going on when I fly through the green stems of the plant. I'm sure it's bad, though Time to RTM... The main updates to Spina is using the side buttons to see how many plants are left in the level and how much more pollen you need to complete the level successfully. And of course, being able to start the game on levels 0-4 (or 3).

I do not like games where the AI is stupid. Take Championship baseball for example. Let the computer get on base. Do not pitch and the man on base will eventually run. It is just to easy to beat the computer in baseball...and that is without tricks like that. Maybe the games are like this because the games were made for kids but I am no longer 12. This reminds me about Stonix. Arnauld and I thought 100 levels would never be reached and the last level is near impossible (I have yet to finish it). Well, shortly after releasing the game, we heard someone completed all the levels. They were not supposed to finish it so quckly!!! There is no need to start Tennis in Super mode. The 3 upper levels play at the same speed. Only starting at beginner has slow movement. Maybe you want to play beginner? Yes, the AI changes a little for each level. Where one can't steal all bases (including home) with regularity when one gets on base?
+grips03 #157 Posted September 27, 2013 What about bottom right? I guess this is why the Intellivision controllers got such a bad rap. People play differently. I think S1 for primary weapon, in this case pepper is best. S2 & S3 can be freeze. Others might be better to comment, as I don't use the normal controller As you know S1 = freeze, S2 & S3 = pepper
+intvsteve #158 Posted September 27, 2013 Oh, I'm not complaining about the difficulty at all - I'm just publicly shaming myself at how much my gamer skillz have atrophied. Back in the day I was decent at the twitchy arcade games, but after the crash my gaming transitioned mostly to other types of games. Not that Tennis is twitchy, but really, in most MMOs, RPGs, etc. just use a totally different skill set.

Those kids and their rapidly developing neural networks in their growing brains... It's not fair! My just-turned-4-year-old has been playing this "bop it" game lately and I think he's already better at it than I am. I have Bop It Extreme and four Bop It originals. I see them for $0.99 at a thrift store.....what an I going to do? Not buy it!?

Others might be better to comment, as I don't use the normal controller As you know S1 = freeze, S2 & S3 = pepper Match 5 is the same way, bomb is S1 and move is S2. I wonder why primary button would be lower left side for these two games?
intvdave #164 Posted September 28, 2013 Match 5 is the same way, bomb is S1 and move is S2. I wonder why primary button would be lower left side for these two games? I do not refer to the controller buttons as S1,S2, and S3. They are the upper side buttons, lower left, and lower right I have always considered the lower side buttons to be the primary buttons. Look at skiing and football (2 games I played alot). LV Poker only uses the lower side buttons.
Ignorama #165 Posted September 28, 2013 TED has some problems with a quick serve and volley play. If you force him to lob you, you have a good chance to make a point with a forehand winner. Still very tough, but I start to see his weak points
intvdave #166 Posted September 28, 2013 Very nice observation Ignorama. You must have been the one that finished Stonix so quickly You are correct. Let me know how this works out for you. This approach can make play harder. There are other techniques also but then again, sometimes it makes play harder. The beauty of the AI
Ignorama #167 Posted September 29, 2013 I do not own Stonix, probably never will But I enjoy sport games very much, so I have some experience with different tactics.

Fushek #172 Posted September 30, 2013 FINALLY had some time to play a full game of Super Chef Burgertime ... Great fun with some unique and challenging screens. Methinks Dave threw in a curve ball in the later levels and changed some of the programming in the bad guys' patterns ... at one point the egg was NOT behaving normally. Maybe a little bit of chaos factor in their movement patterns (or it could be that it was midnight while playing and I was dreaming)? Anyways, throwing down the gauntlet . 169,750. intvdave #173 Posted September 30, 2013 Nice score (double meaning) and 24 screens. Very nice. Did you repeat any of the screens? It is nice to see people playing the games
ebelhaki #174 Posted September 30, 2013 Got a chance to play some SPT yesterday, was able to score a few points but was not able to win a set/match.... maybe next time. Very fun though. It was exciting the first time I was able to hit the ball hard over the net while serving and not fault. Now if I could just become consistent at it. I think that I repeated one or two of the screens (or at least they looked familiar). It's fun to try to survey the new screen quickly to try to come up with a game plan. I didn't use the freeze very often ... tried it once to get to an "extreme" bun ... still didn't turn out too well for me!
