Microsoft now owns XBONE domain name

Recommended Posts

Fix the title: "Boneheads buy the Xbone name"

Probably bought so as to further prevent defamation.

Its no wonder google and amazon sprouted some centers near Redmond. My buddy at Amazon told me they are sucking up ex-Microsoft staff constantly.

I'm amused by the fact that Major Nelson feels the moniker is disrespectful. I'll tell you what's disrespectful Mr. Nelson--being purposefully and shamelessly obfuscatory when questioned about the true, anti-consumer, nature of your upcoming product, constantly regurgitating the same meaningless PR-goobledygook over and over while wearing the thin and disingenuous smile of a huckster, ever failing to give a straight answer to a simple question.

... And when the moment of truth DID come, the customers find out that what you'd been hiding from them is exactly what they'd been asking.

I'm getting one for sure, but I have to say, Xbox One is a lame name for the thing.

Seriously even Xbox 720 would have been a better name, and I don't think that is terribly great.

I'd have called it, Xbox Awesome. Then the nick name would have been Xbossome! No one would complain about that nickname.

As it stands, just gonna have to eat the bone MS.

It didn't occur to a single person involved in the development of the console?

You can bet they all make 6 figures this year. Go figure.

They're saving the name for their next console, which will implement all of the bullshit they wanted to implement but back-pedaled on.

It's a legit and straightforward abbreviation (e.g. as much as Irvine Parnell Frehley = "I. P. Frehley").

So at the end of the day it's 100% their fault for choosing the name and not seeing the obvious. :P

Not seeing the obvious seemed to be a trend when making this console.

If they had half a brain, they'd turn it to their advantage. Xbone is a whole hell of a lot catchier than Xbox One. It's not too much to call it the "Cross Bone" and from there you can say shit like "Cross Bone, the backbone of personal entertainment!" or some other drek like that.

Before deciding on a new brand name, companies should first hire a team of eight-year-old boys to see how many dirty jokes they can make out of it. If the name can escape their scrutiny without being turned into a cheeky pun, it will probably also survive the scrutiny of bloggers and journalists, who often seem to have a lot in common with a bunch of eight-year-olds.

That's why we're not hearing any other crappy nicknames people would tend to make up like "Xflop" et. al. because the actual name falls so plainly into it's own funniness.

  cross-bone :lolblue: :lolblue: where goes smart people these days? (obviously outside of M$)

The new Xbox looks more square than nothing, I would call it Square-box :)

Even that's better. They could have called the system THE BRICK. I can already see the advertisments done in the old 90s Sega style.

Wolf goes up to house of straw with a pig inside playing the Wii U. Blows the house down.

Wolf goes up to house of sticks with a pig inside playing the PS4. Blows the house down.

Wolf goes up to house of brick with a pig inside watching the NFL on his BRICK. Tries to blow the house down and fails. He then meekly knocks on the door saying, "Can I come in and play?" to which the pig gives some sort of rude gesture or response.

Shot changes one of the glorious new system...

"Don't be a blockhead. Go BRICK!" ::followed by montage of sports and Call of Duty set to EXTREME music::

Since when was Xbone just a nickname? It's a retraction people made to mock the system. To "bone" something used to mean screwing it up. There's been all sorts of other names people have called it. The Xbox One has a crummy name and had a horrible initial showing, hence the mockery, hence the name "Xbone". It's not supposed to be an appropriate shortening, like 360 or PS3.

That's the point.. it's not supposed to be, but it is. It wasn't the intended shortening.. but it is a fully valid shortening, just like "XB360" or "PS2" is. It adds nothing to the name at all, simply taking the first 2 initials and the last part.

Of course it's actually pronounced X B One. But when you put em together and how people will read it, that's the funny.

I find the idea that MS wants to "control" the nicknaming of their console to be really silly on their part. There are over 20 million current Microsoft console users, and quite a few more people beyond that who care enough about the XBox brand to form an opinion. That's a lot of people, and some of them are going to form negative opinions and choose to voice said opinions. For Microsoft to get so butthurt at this concept and try to limit customers calling them a mean name really screams of image desperation. Microsoft is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest technology company in the world, and they're freaking out over a nickname. Well, I've got some really bad news for them... people have been abbreviating their company name with a dollar sign for DECADES!

I'm guessing that pre-orders haven't picked up that much since the big 180.

They stopped listening to people like us a few years back, they figured the social crowd is big bucks so now everything is geared towards avatars, motion controls and advertising potato chips.

In a weird way they are the George Lucas of video gaming for me.

Very bad idea calling any piece of electronics a Brick nowadays.
