Jorpho #1 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Someone pointed out to me just recently: when you press * during Mr. Do, the screen turns black, and the end of level fanfare plays in an endless loop. I don't remember this at all from when I played Mr. Do, however! I recall that when * was pressed, the screen turned green, and a weird funky blues riff started playing. Seeing this now makes me question my memory and I'm starting to wonder if I'm actually thinking of Omega Race. Does someone here have the CBS version of Mr. Do and can check the pause music? (Was this version ever dumped?) Edited September 18, 2013 by Jorpho
Ikrananka #2 Posted September 18, 2013 Having just dumped both the US and CBS versions I can confirm that (i) the cart roms are identical and are both the same as the main rom available in the public domain, (ii) the public domain rom marked as an alternate rom dump with an [a] is in fact only one byte different to the main rom file and this is in the free space (where no game code exists) at the end of the rom file - therefore these two roms are identical in their gameplay (and pause) code, and (iii) the pause does indeed result in a black screen with the level fanfare playing.
Jorpho #3 Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Well, phooey. I must be thinking of something else – unless there's a third version of the game out there somewhere. (Could there be?) Thank you very much for that information, anyway; you saved me from a great deal of laborious detective work. I guess I should check Omega Race.
