CONFIRMED: Nintendo Realizes It's Not 1993

Recommended Posts

Just an FYI, Nintendo finally has realized that it needs to be able to transfer people's accounts. We all heard this about a week ago, but they said they had yet to have a plan.

Well, I can confirm they DO have a plan, and it's being used RIGHT NOW!

That's right. If you have a new Wii U (like the Zelda Wii U), and you want to access your old Nintendo ID account, like you would a PSN account, to redownload your old games and keep your username. YOU CAN.

Albeit, it's not nearly as smooth as Sony, where you just log in. Call Nintendo, find the old Serial # of the Wii U you had before so they can confirm your old Nintendo ID was indeed once attached to the system, read them the games you bought digitally (confirmation on their end... just go to DDP.Nintendo.com and log in with your Nintendo ID), and VOILA!

You will have to ask for a manager, but it IS possible, and these customer service managers want to help as even they are tired of Nintendo (the company) dragging their heals. If anyone needs the direct number of one of these managers, I can provide it if you promise you don't mention how you got it.

So if you have an old Nintendo ID you thought was once lost forever, fret not. As long as you deleted it from your Wii U before you sold it/gave it away, you're fine. :)

Enjoy!

FYI:

Old balance in the eShop remains

Old downloads remain - go to your profile and it shows everything you can redownload

I wonder if this would work to keep my content on my Wii when I buy a Wii U by telling them that the Wii is broken and just never logging online with it again afterwards so they can't remove the DLC licenses from it. My purchases show on my Club Nintendo account AFAIK if that's the account they check.

I want to take advantage of an economical way to upgrade my Wii purchases. But I hated the thought of being stuck playing those that don't have a Wii U upgrade option in 16:9 due to the Wii U always stretching Wii mode when it upscales it. And reverting back to 480p just to accomplish it for the occasional game will be a pain and my HDTV doesn't upscale 480p well which is why my Wii is connected to a CRT.

And I rather liked using my Wavebird for the N64 games although I'm hoping that the Classic Controller Pro I bought a while back is a good substitute for that when i get around to trying it with something like Super Mario 64. The original Classic Controller, while excellent for SuperNes games and such, just didn't get the job done for me with N64 downloads.

Yeah.. It would be great if Nintendo allowed you to use your purchased downloadable titles on multiple consoles. I did the system transfer from my Wii to Wii U a couple of months back, and honestly.. I kind of miss playing them on the original Wii. :(

Had another friend do this and the lady told him they're officially now doing profile transfers wii u to wii u without having to send them in. Due to the overwhelming number of upgraded zelda wii u system owners calling for this Nintendo finally caved officially.

As long as you have both serial numbers its now possible to do this no matter who you call in customer service. :)

I hope they make an announcement about this. It could really help their image. I don't mind the games being locked to a single system as long as I can have peace of mind knowing that I can transfer the licenses at some other point without any trouble. Before, they were extremely strict about it, even if your system completely bit the dust.
