+remowilliams
DOH! I didn't read your notes carefully enough above about the layout. It does indeed work. Thanks for the clarifications, and of course for all the hard work!
foft
I added arrow key/enter/escape support in the next version, so people can use the menu before figuring out the keypad mappings Oh and hit left alt to toggle fake 'scan lines' in the scan doubler... +remowilliams
Oh and hit left alt to toggle fake 'scan lines' in the scan doubler... Oooh! Any chance of moving that artifacting DIP over to another setting?
foft
Oooh! Any chance of moving that artifacting DIP over to another setting? Did you try holding up/down/left/right on a joystick at once? Edited November 9, 2014 by foft
jum
I came across the MCC-216 FPGA-based classic system emulator on the weekend: http://mcc-home.com/2.html At $150 it's cheaper than MIST, and supports Amiga, C64, Atari 800 plus one or two others. Not sure how much effort would be involved in getting the 5200 to run on this (not to mention joystick interfaces etc). PS: I'm very impressed with the progress you guys have made with the MIST-based 5200 Edited November 10, 2014 by jum
foft
There are pros and cons. eg MIST will soon have aga amiga support and has more fpga space. There is also mcctv for $80 iirc. Yes I plan to make the core available for mcc216 and mcctv. There is some complexity because there is no USB chip on these boards. So the core has to implement USB itself to support suitable 5200 controllers.

NML32
Over at the MIST Wiki someone created documentation for the Atari 5200 core. https://code.google.com/p/mist-board/wiki/CoreDocAtari5200 Edited November 23, 2014 by NML32

foft
Should mention here that there is a manual available for the core, thanks to Farb, at my site http://www.scrameta.net There will shortly (few hours) be a new build on my website. There are some new platforms: MCCTV and MCC216. Either use a 5200daptor with real controller or use a keyboard and analog usb joystick together. If anyone is trying two player the 2nd keypad should now work.

foft
Let me know how you get on... mcc216:atari5200core_NTSC_SVIDEO.argatari5200core_NTSC_VGA.arg mcctv:atari5200core_NTSC_COMPOSITE.arg NB: be careful with sd directory names. To keep within the 8 character fat limit the dirs are called atar5200 (no i!). Edited December 14, 2014 by foft
NML32
@foft I did a quick run of the 5200 core on the MCC-216 and it works very well with the 5200-daptor and iBuffalo gamepad. What a treat to be able to use my own gamepad!!! Thanks!!!
jugac64
Hi NML32! how are you. Does the ARG USB joypad works with the 5200 core, as an analog joystick? it has the digital/analog switching button.
foft
Yes, in fact the ARG USB joypad has a custom mapping... However the analog stick is too imprecise for missile command!

Correct, and the 5200-daptor works better for Castle Crisis as well.

jugac64
Thanks Mark, now the MCC is more Atari than Comodore!
NML32
@foft Sorry, I noticed a small feature missing in the MCC-216's 5200 core. I can't scroll through the roms list using my USB gamepad. Tested the 800 core on the MCC and I'm able too scroll through the rom list.
foft
You need to use the keyboard right now. Arrow keys or 5200 2,4,6,8 keys.
amiman99
What USB gamepad are you guys using? I have USB-to-PSX adapter and it's not working very well.
foft
What USB gamepad are you guys using? I have USB-to-PSX adapter and it's not working very well. 5200daptor and real 5200 controller. MCC official one from MCCTV. When you say not very well ... any more details? How does it look on Pete's test?
amiman99
I'm using DIG DUG game for test. It looks like it always wants to go RIGHT, LEFT is UP, RIGHT is DOWN, always shoots, can not go LEFT, because it wants to go RIGHT. On Missle Command, I can see the cursor all the way to the RIGHT, when I move the Analog stick to the LEFT, the cursor goes UP. When I move the analog stick to the RIGHT, the cursor moves DOWN. Looks like the analog values are good, it moves in linear way, but in the wrong direction and stuck on the left of the screen. What is Pete's Test? Just to clarify, I'm using MCC-216 with USB-PSX adapter. Edited December 14, 2014 by amiman99
