Supergun #7 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) No chance. The Blue Sky Rangers are stones. Right. But let me ask you a question. What was the deal with Sea Battle? Why is that one out there and available? Was it leaked? Or was another one found in the wild by us? Or were the Rangers more liberal back then and they actually released it? EDIT: Well, I see that Sea Battle & Sword Fight were "released due to the enthusiasm of the fans" as stated on their website. I guess I meant how did Rocky & Bullwinkle become available. And so what exactly merits "sufficient enthusiasm"? Edited October 7, 2013 by Supergun
+bcombee #8 Posted October 8, 2013 I think the issue is that Sea Battle and Sword Fight were original IPs, while Anteater was a licensed game. In order to officially release Anteater, they would have to find the current rights holders and negotiate with them, which would be a major pain. Look how much trouble it was to get Boulder Dash released for the 2600, and that was a case where the rights holders were easy to determine.

Sea Battle and Sword Fight were made available for fans on cart, were then dumped and got spread on the net. SpaceDice2010 #11 Posted October 20, 2013 Do the Blue Rangers guys not like to release what they have? Lloyd
+Psionic #12 Posted October 21, 2013 Do the Blue Rangers guys not like to release what they have? Unfortunately not, unless they can sell it. They've released a few titles on cartridge in cases where they've been able to obtain permission to do so (such as Steamroller for CV), and they've demoed a few others at CGE over the years, but they've never publicly circulated any ROM images to unreleased games. jhd #13 Posted October 21, 2013 Has anyone attempted to ascertain who currently holds the rights to this game (as opposed to physical posession of the prototype)? Perhaps a polite inquiry may get the process underway for an eventual release -- or at least an idea of what it would cost to purchase those rights from the holder so that the game could be released. +Special Teams #14 Posted October 21, 2013 Do the Blue Rangers guys not like to release what they have? Yes. On the recent podcast, they mentioned moving something like 3 million Plug and Play units. That's where the money is, apparently.

Yes, those are all very good questions & ideas, and by all means, you or someone else should feel free to pursue them. But the biggest problem is not who owns the rights, or who has the rom data, or who currently possesses the actual physical proto in their hands, or any of the other details or politics of what may or may not be involved. Rather the biggest problem is that nobody wants it bad enough.
