You have $300 what do you buy?

Here's the deal, you have $300 and you have to spend it on gaming related items. It could be a cart, console, collectible or anything as long as its tied to gaming, it could be a single item or multiple items and the "real world" total is no more than $300

 

As of right now for me:

 

1. Ultimarc lightgun for MAME $100

2. Kenner Redline handheld CIB $80

3. 2 year AA subscription $50

4. Complete Vextrex box/packing/paperwork for my naked Vectrex $70??

Honestly, at this point I'd rather spend the money buying new shelving/etc to organize what I currently own. I need to completely gut my game room and reorganize. It's just a huge mess now.

 

Entertainment center, shelving, power strips, other misc storage and plugs/adapters. Maybe look into picking up a decent CRT for light gun games. I just don't have the room for more machines or games.

 

I would like to get a Jaguar or 5200 some day though.

Next for me, I think, is a set of SD card carts (starting with Harmony) for various systems. I have one for Colecovision and love it.

I'd buy a Famicom Disk System and a giant lot of Famicom games, after which I'd slowly start selling off my NES collection.

I might buy a couple of common systems that I don't already own, to have for reference and loan to (retro) gaming events that I'm co-arranging. I don't know how far $300 would get me when buying one each, loose but decent condition NES, SNES, SMS, Saturn (*) with required cables and at least 1-2 games for each system. It might sound like a boring choice, but it is also tedious to ask around if anyone has those systems that should be very common but it turns out are hard to find someone willing to lend.

 

(*) I already got a Famicom, SC-3000 and Genesis. I think PC Engine and even worse Neo Geo would break my budget too soon, and I consider N64, DreamCast etc too new to be worth "investing" in. Then again, I once owned a N64 for almost two hours so never say never. I once owned a NES for 24 hours too.

A windfall of 300 bones, hmm... interesting question! I'd be most tempted to assign those dollars as follows:

 

1) Achieving closure on my backburner obsession of obtaining picture quality goodness from a handful of my favourite consoles. ~$80 for a decent RGB to YUV video converter, ~$50 for the cables.

 

2) A Lynx (either model) and a whack of games, ~$170.

Game Gears are a dime a dozen, because more often than not they're broken. Buy a truckload, fix them all up, sell them, and then decide how you want to spend your three thousand dollars.

 

Of course that takes more time and dedication than I have at the moment...

Yeah i bought 4 broken ones to be fixed, but got only one working, 1 has a blinking red led light and then shuts down. The other 2 i used the case to fix 2 working gears with broken cases.

I'd have trouble deciding. On the one hand, I've been wanting a PC Engine Duo for quite some time. On the other hand, the Vectrex looks cool too. Gamewise, there's Magical Chase. Or, instead of blowing it all on one game, I could get several like Ninja Gaiden (the PCE version), Batman (PCE), Earthbound (SNES), Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)....

In short, I have no idea.

Maybe i can hook u up with one. I have 3 units and 2 tapedecks so i have 1 spare unit. I don't have a spare diskdrivd so can't help u with that. Have to check if it's fully functional but if it is maybe we can trade? Still looking for a cpc464, and they are hard to come by over here.
