Breaking news: Intellivision flashback coming to retail

Recommended Posts

Couple questions: the eBay listing is for $60. Is that going to be the MSRP, or is this guy charging a markup over list? And second, anyone know the seller? Are they reputable and/or connected to AtGames?

SRP is $39.99 according to Toys R Us pre-order.

As far as I know, all AtGames products of this type retail for $60. Depending on the time of year and store, street prices are usually $30 - $50. In other words, never pay retail. I don't know what the deal is with the eBay guy. It could be as simple as pre-ordering from Toys "R"Us and trying to profit before anyone catches on. I still don't think it's within eBay's rules, regardless.

I'm really glad that they kept close to the original model's design...very nice!

Looking forward to hearing what the game line-up will be.

Bill,

Any idea on how the controllers store with the unit?

It looks like it's flat in the area where the controller's openings use to be.

Thanks,

StephenJ

I hope Thin Ice is on there. That's the highlight of the unlicensed Mattel/INTV lineup as far as I'm concerned.

Hope this shows up in Canada. Could never find any of the flashbacks around here.

I would find the Atari Flashbacks in the Costco stores in Edmonton, and some of the retro game stores.

If you're not far away from the border, they're easily found in several chains not far away from Ontario. While I've only seen Atari Flashbacks at Wal-Mart and never a Sega product, both are available every Fall at WalGreens and Dollar Generals here in upstate NY on the other side of the St. Lawrence.

If anyone wants to see it look here.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=35290526&prodFindSrc=search&cp=

It will have the original Intellivision controllers or as it says in the description "Original design Intellivision controllers" and looks like the original Intellivision and comes with Overlays. Lets hope it's much better then that piece of crap Plug n Plat that kind of looked like Sega Genesis Controller. or the Intellivision 25 TV Play Power.

Looks like the controllers are wired, maybe they will be unplug-able for use on Intellivision 2 (I used Sears Intellivision Controllers to replace those crappy Intellivision 2 controllers on my Intellivison 2)

Why they are making us wait till October is beyond me.

Yeah, I hope the emulation is like Intellivision Lives for the PC. The emulation on the controller was total crap. It didn't play like the original at all!

The make or break for me are the controllers.

I need them to replace my Intellivision 2 ones, and if they do I would buy 2 of these.

That would be awesome!!!

Hey! No robbing parts!

Just kidding!

Would be cool if they made the flash back in different colors at one point! Maybe white?

Keep in mind that, like the Atari Flashback, both the ColecoVision and Intellivision Flashbacks, while reminiscent in styling of the original consoles are much, much smaller, making controller storage impossible.

They did their best to match the styling of the original consoles to target the nostalgic with fuzzy memories, so I think it will be unlikely that they'll release different colors unless these are unexpected hits and they decide to release slight variations/different bundles like they did with the Flashback 4. Sometimes different retailers request special versions, but it's usually something minor, like an extra game or two. I have a feeling with both the ColecoVision and Intellivision products they're at their limit for this year in terms of games to put on there. For future versions of the products, differentiation will have to be with homebrews and perhaps additional features like SD card slots, though, outside of Sega, that's always been an issue with the rights holders, i.e., it's not a technical, but a business issue.

Anyway, just like with the Atari Flashback 3 and beyond, the ColecoVision and Intellivision Flashback controllers are meant to be near 1:1 recreations of the originals and plug compatible with the original consoles and their controllers, and vice-versa. Naturally, these are not exact matches as the size is not quite the same and there are some considerations for modern design advancements. Unfortunately, I have yet to use any of them, so I don't know how well they meet these challenging goals.

I just had a flash (flashback!) of genius.....or....craziness!

The flashback console is about 15 x 10. Now I have to take apart a Intv2, but it *could* be possible to do a little work and put it in the flashback? For what purpose? I dont know yet!

I like that evil laugh!

Now I wonder if someone could take the flashback, and turn it into a handheld or portable.......hmmm......I may put a little tv in my work truck to play at "work"!

THis flashback is starting to look pretty good, But it will never replace my original!

I will probably buy a few spares and give to my brothers, one of my bros actually bought the atari flashback.....they are just not into retro gaming like me.

I reported the seller on eBay for Presale violations. Let's see if it means anything in the long run.

I see people doing those pre-sale things on tons of stuff....I didnt even know it was against policy!

(i never do them)

I saw Fushek's post pretty early, and the seller still had 5 units. Then the seller was sold out within a half an hour. Gotta think that there are some unhappy Atari Agers...
