bbking67 #1 Posted October 15, 2013 I can't read german, but this looks like a 3D model of 1050 enclosure. I'd love to be able to buy these or print them myself someday when 3D printers go mainstream. http://des-or-mad.net/blog/artikel/3d-atari-1050-gehaeuse-modelliert.html Translation: "The Blender 3D model of my Atari 1050 Disk Drives already taking shape in the truest sense of the word. The case is modeled largely, but contains no textures. In the next step, I'll add the front panel of the disk drive, power switch and the rear connectors. Then the model gets a little color and is ready for the first application cases." /bbking67

bbking67 #4 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Yes the all-white 1050 looks really nice... as nostalgic as I am about the brown beige two-tone I would go with the white as a replacement case if somebody ever built it. Mathy #5 Posted October 15, 2013 Hello guys Oliver is the guy that also designs the covers of the ABBUC Magazine. BTW you don't have to install Google Chrome, you can also use Google Translate from the browser you're using. There's even a plugin for Safari that'll translate any page you don't have to log in for at the click of a button. Sincerely Mathy
des-OR-mad #6 Posted October 17, 2013 Hi, thank you for mentioning my project. The case or better the whole floppy drive is a part of my current Blender 3D project. The case and circuit board are already completed. I'm currently working on the drive mechanics. It is not planned to print the case or parts of it later, but lately Sven (ABBUC) used the 3D model as basis for his SIO port printing. The goal is to have a complete 3D model of the 1050 disk station. Xebec #7 Posted October 17, 2013 This is a very cool effort -- will the CAD drawings for the casing be made available at some point to the public? I have a couple of 3D printers i've built (thank you reprap community) and would like to try to print these
des-OR-mad #8 Posted October 24, 2013 Hello, sorry for the late response. Yes, all 3D models (Blender files) will be published under creative commons licence (CC-BY-SA). For the next ABBUC JHV (annual meeting) I've created a short video to show the current project state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAsDfRZSX_U
adam242 #9 Posted October 24, 2013 Slighty off-topic: It would really be nice to have 3D models of the XM301 and 1030 modems. Their small size makes the cases perfect for SIO2SD and other devices. If we could 3D-print them, we could stop sacrificing the actual vintage hardware, useless as it is these days.
