bretthorror #481 Posted November 26, 2015 I've been buying bundles and Steam games like crazy. All of the Wolfenstein, Doom, Duke Nukem and great indie games have been so cheap lately. Even that 3DS Castlevania game is on sale for 3 bucks. Double Dragon Neon is a dollar, it's just a retro gamers' paradise on Steam and the bundle sites right now. +wongojack #487 Posted November 30, 2015 I went a little conservative with the Steam sales this year. I got The Walking Dead for Pinball FX2, The Cinemaware collection, and the Double Fine collection. The total for all that was something like $24. cimerians #490 Posted December 3, 2015 GOG Winter Sale is up. All Lucasarts games are around $1.50 or $2 in the bundle. You also get a free game for spending $5.
bretthorror #491 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) Bundle Stars has a deal right now on the best bundle I've ever come across. I haven't played any of the games, but the reviews are tight and they're all games I'd play or at least try in one case. Sweet ass deal for $2.19 Canadian, so likely $1.50 US? Insane! I bought it for Guacamelee alone (Metroidvania style wrestling game I've heard great things about), but when I looked into the other games they all had good reviews and looked interesting. First time I've ever redeemed more than 3 codes from a bundle, I did all 9 in this pack. https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/all-stars-4-bundle Edited December 3, 2015 by bretthorror

The indie heroes bundle is also worth it. Guacamelee is one of the best Metroidvania games I've played. Really fun. Beat it twice.
Mord #493 Posted December 3, 2015 Heh. Steam better be careful with their attempts to discourage the really high sale prices if competition like bundlestars is going to continue to do them.
JamesD #494 Posted December 3, 2015 Heh. Steam better be careful with their attempts to discourage the really high sale prices if competition like bundlestars is going to continue to do them. Most of my Steam games have come from Bundle Stars and Humble Bundle. They are usually cheaper.
cybercylon #495 Posted December 4, 2015 Thing is, I probably would never get around to playing most of those games. I hardly touch my Steam library as it is. I'll finish some big game, and fiddle with one of these... oh and here comes Xenoblade Chronicles X, Persona 5, a big Fallout 4 expansion, or whatever, and that game I started to fiddle with from one of those deals goes by the wayside and I forget I even have it.... bretthorror #497 Posted December 4, 2015 I'm the opposite, Steam and Indiebox are giving me exactly what I want to the point (although I've only been in the game for a couple weeks) that I'm seriously considering ditching non-Nintendo consoles from here on out and going to focus on retro emulation and Steam. Steam gives me everything I really need in these little bundles, spanning all genres. I have got a good amount of time in my PS4, but I literally haven't used my Xbox One but for maybe 20 hours. Normally I don't have a problem with that, I'll play 'er on down the road, but with games having to be connected to servers and shit these days, I'm not sure I'll be able to do that, so the PS5/XboxWhatever might not find their ways into my home. This Steam thing is just too affordable. I'm literally stocked to the tits with games and I've spent maybe 70 bucks Canadian? And I bought all the Wolfensteins/Duke Nukems/Dooms so I didn't have to piss around with them, so about 1/4 of those funds went into that. I didn't even redeem all my codes and I'm up to 59 games. The codes I didn't redeem were things I wasn't interested in. And this is 70 bucks worth! Granted, 25ish were a part of the iD software pack with all their games, but I'm assuming those are all playable and pack in a good amount of history. Still, cleaning up all the riff raff, I cherry picked about 35 games I actually want to play for 70 bucks and I got a shitload of others I might like to boot. I'm in the process of getting my first 7800 collection and a decent amount of commons are gonna be around that, not counting the system. It's just insane. The Steam stuff are legit real games, too.
cybercylon #498 Posted December 4, 2015 Sure... the Steam stuff is legit, and there is a lot of good content there (as there is shovel ware like anywhere else). I come at this from the other end. There is a fair amount that have to play and up and coming that won't see the light of day on Steam, although with niche JRPG, I see that has improved somewhat. Another big reason is that for something like Fallout 4, I don't have a computer that has the stones to play it. Sure, there are budget setups you can get, but since I already have two computers that take care of most of what I need to do, and consoles, I can't justify another piece of hardware. Still, if more and more shifts to Steam, etc that were once console only, I would consider the Steam route more than I do. Actually, my main point really is I have enough between the consoles and Steam that I really don't need to buy something else, and I shouldn't since I was over budget this year anyway. Spouse gets crabby.
