In the future if a side-car assembly for a future project is too difficult, a CORDED box could be possible.

 

Here is one possible configuration a new future TI device might resemble. The Commodore users have some neat ideas we could 'borrow'.

 

Here are a few examples:

 

 

 

Something like this could have a 3-6 foot cord, plug into the side of the TI or Speech Synthesizer.

 

Or a variant of something like this...

 

 

Anyone else have any ideas?

Rasmus suggested the Rashberry Pi ($35), and it looks interesting. And I could see many purposes for the unit - as a Super Sidecar, a Super Cartridge(s) and an all-in-one Super TIbox. The last one obviously being all emulation.

 

This guys put the Rashberry inside a TI-99/4A, but I guess only the keyboard ends up being TI.

Perhaps an Arduino MEGA board would be a better choice than a RPi because it has more pins (54)? I'm not sure how they compare in performance for a project like a sidecar, and performance seems to be a critical factor.

I have no clue, so I am not qualified to comment on anything other than from a users perspective....

 

As a user, I would say that if anything is developed on either one of these platforms it must look and act functionally identical to a TI.

 

I've seen video's of a lengthy boot-up periods and with splash screens on the Pi. I would not want that, as it would slow me down and detract from the experience. I'm not the biggest fan of the V2 Nano, but at least it looks and acts invisible to the user.
