NinSEGA #1 Posted November 25, 2013 After watching this video- I'm amazed that a game was even able to output such good graphics on a system that tended to have everything composed of rectangles instead of squares. Is there anything that could have possibly beat it or came close?
+Gemintronic #2 Posted November 25, 2013 Nope. You're right. Everything else is composed of irregular squares, sadly. You obviously read the book "Racing the Rectangle" and concurred with its premise.
Rhomaios #3 Posted November 25, 2013 All jokes aside, yes Solaris is the best looking 2600 game.
Gregory DG #4 Posted November 25, 2013 Define "best." Fastest? Most colorful? Most varied? I love Solaris, but I think there are some other games that might compete for best graphics title. BMX Airmaster, Track & Field, Road Runner, Kung Fu Master, Pitfall II, California Games come to mind... Plus, Solaris is similar to Moonsweeper & Buck Rogers, so it's not like that style had never been done before.
Rhomaios #5 Posted November 25, 2013 ^A combination of the three. All nice looking games, too, no doubt. I'd still put Solaris above them, but yeah, Track and Field especially is great looking. Road Runner and California Games arent' as impressive to me, but I never played much of CG either, so maybe I am misremembering.
+Gemintronic #6 Posted November 25, 2013 I don't think he explicitly stated newer releases were excluded. Boulder Dash wins.
+Random Terrain #7 Posted November 26, 2013 Years before Solaris was released, Moonsweeper already impressed the crap out of me.
+Gemintronic #8 Posted November 26, 2013 A few years ago I discovered London Blitz. Freakin' amazing!

The first 3, definitely not... and I'm not about to go check the others because I'm pretty sure they are in the same boat of not being anywhere near the quality of Solaris. How are you sure if you didn't check them out? Don't do it to prove who's right: do it for fun! Isn't that the whole point?

Yeah, it's sooooooo hard to load up Stella and click on a game. You might get a blister on your finger. Better not risk it.

You are like, the most sensible person here. How'd you get so sensible? Sounds like your are not really interested into different opinions. Road Runner doesn't even look like the Road Runner. It looks more like blue rectangular vomit. Edited November 27, 2013 by NinSEGA
Andre81 #14 Posted November 27, 2013 Don't forget Radar Lock uses the same game engine as Solaris.

+Random Terrain #16 Posted November 28, 2013 Youtube would save an extra step or two. Do you know how hard it is to use YouTube? You have to know how to spell! It's impossible! Forget that.
Thomas Jentzsch #17 Posted November 28, 2013 Maybe we should explain him Copy and Paste instead? Or would that be to complicated...
lushgirl_80 #18 Posted November 28, 2013 I first played this game back in 1999 and I used to think even then it was the coolest looking game for 2600. Reminds me of the raver days lol. As far as the gameplay though....kinda meh imo. I prefer Star Raiders.
Feralstorm #19 Posted December 10, 2013 Best or not, it's definitely a very graphically competent title. I remember the recurring ringed planet image impressing me back when, as I knew even then colors on the 2600 usually worked only in horizontal stripes, so that slanted ring was a bit of a surprise,
R.O.T.S #20 Posted December 12, 2013 Yeah I think it probably is the best looking and real slick too, always liked the horizon on Chopper command as well, love those bands of color.
