Help to find this type of games gfxs and sprites...

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Just to take ideas, gfxs and sprites, not 100% 'copy and paste' onto A8 but maybe for a next game I have in mind.

It's a scrolling shooter with many and different levels where we can be in each one a jeep, an heli, a tank or a plane.

I already have the main idea for the Engine and A8 colour DLIs and PMGs use. I have, by now, some gfxs and sprites inspiration from games like Silkworm, U.N. Squadron and Army Moves.

What others the same type you can remember?

To take the main logic/ideas(s) it can be from any 8bit including consoles but for gfxs and sprites I would prefer C64 ones.

Thanks.

Are you looking to implement a vertical or horizontal shooter?

I was just imagining a game which had a background a little like the "Micro Machines" backgrounds, except that it's a shooter. I guess that those would be quite heavy on the font usage, but would be very good if implemented.

It's horizontal shooter and I want to take ideas from sky planes waves and ground cannons like Silkworm.

But I want to also create a new thing in the ground ;) and that the X:8 can be used.

Lets say that what I have in mind uses just the A8 hardware possibilities but no-one remember of it untill me ;) !

But I cannot say more or someone can use my idea...

How about F1 Tornado, Q10 Tankbuster or Chopper Commander on the C64 by Zeppelin?

@TMR: Going to them right now.

Good you remember Zeppelin because I know they had some interesting shoot scrollers and platformers but 'my A8 religion' didn't allowed me (at least officially) to continue to follow their releases/catalogue after they droped the A8.

But at least, I remember that they released a 'Spaghetti Western'!...

Yeah, well nobody is perfect (although i quite like the music on that one)... =-)

When i get my head a little more straight (i'm just finishing a C64 game for the RGCD 16K competition, the deadline is tonight and i was up at 2:30am cramming a third level in) i'll give this a proper think to see what else comes up; in the meantime, Blue Baron (Zeppelin) and Kamikaze (Codemasters) are WW2 but have some possibly useful sprites, Battle Valley (Hewson/Rack It) has some two sprite wide tanks and helis as well as one sprite enemies that might be interesting for you and Mission Monday (Ash Routledge and Dave Saunders) stars a bloke driving a jeep and one of the enemies is a tank.

Okay, C64 code sorted so here's another list with notes:

Blood Money (Psygnosis) - there's a helicopter on the first stage.

Challenge of the Gobots (Ariolasoft) - has some planes and tanks.

KGB Superspy (Codemasters) - an okay-looking tank and a two sprite heli.

Mr. Heli (Firebird) - a cute helicopter...!

P-47 (Firebird) - a range of planes, helicopters and tanks.

Protector (Mastertronic) - this is on the A8, but the graphics look different.

Silverfish (Psytronik) - helicopters, jets and a few other odds and ends.

Steigar (Screen 7) - two sprite wide jets and helicopters.

Stoppt den Calippo Fresser (unpublished) - another helicopter.

Suicide Express (Gremlin) - two sprite wide jet fighter amongst the nasties.

That lot any good...? =-)
