Yurkie Colecovision issues

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am having an issue with my Yurkie Colecovision and I am not sure what is going on here so I thought I would post here and see if anyone had some ideas,

My Yurkie Colecovision has been with me a lttlte over a year and it's played great until now (I think). It's been a two-three months since I played it last just because of work, etc but I got a new receiver specifically for my retro games (ONKYO TX-NR818). So I hooked it up and you can see from the screen shots something is up (lines are going vertical). I have a 65inch plasma flat screen by the way.

I thought it was my new receiver with the issues, maybe getting the signal wrong, but I did take it out to where I have a CRT and I got the same thing. I also tried different game cartages and I still have the issue =/

If anyone has an idea, let me know. Its a real bummer as I wanted to play with my kiddo the day after Thanksgiving.

Man that truly sucks! I'd just like to say, it's really heartwarming hearing about classic game owners playing with their kids. Showing them where gaming all started is great education IMO. I REALLY hope you get the problem fixed. ;)

Thanks Rik, I bought that upgrade kit and it is wayyyy over my head. I contacted Yurkie and I am sending it back to him to see if her can repair it. I will let you all know how it goes.

And another note, I play with my kids the Coleco a bit as its easy fun for them, they are 7 and 5 and they love playing games that "Daddy" played when he was a kid. It's all safe games (no blood, etc), the games are quick so I don't have to wait for them to be done (for the most part).

I also have an Adam Computer in my office right next to my work computer, they see it all =)

I had this same type of problem out of the blue, right before I was sending mine to Yurkie for the composite mod. All those weird vertical lines. He cleaned the system up, include the power button refurb, and it was fine. Could it be the power button?

Yeah, today's games are mostly graphic violence. That's what classic gaming is so great, good clean fun, no blood and guts and people getting limbs blown off.

Happy Holidays all!

I just wanted to send an update on what happened. I guess I have good timing with this since I got an email from Yurkie saying it was the power adapter. Since i was interested in the power mod he has designed he is working on that now for me. Once I get it back I will tell everyone my thoughts!

Again, Yurkie is a great guy and his work is surpurb!

Make sure you completely disassemble your power switch, and clean it, lube it and reassemble. It makes a world of a difference and will cure a lot of graphic and sound woes. Preventive maintenance you could say..

If there was violence depicted, it was all 8-bit graphics... How graphics can it get? icon_wink.gif

Exactly, and it should have STAYED that way.

Nonsense. All that's happened is that technology has advanced and gaming options have increased. If you want non-violent games, you have them. If you want violent games, you have them. There is more choice than ever, plus all the old stuff, so no, things most certainly should not have stayed that way. Every medium needs an opportunity to mature, and thankfully videogames have been given that opportunity. That's like saying movies should have stayed silent, or that TV should have stayed in SD because HD reveals too much detail.

I agree, i just meant to say i prefer the OLD days of gaming when graphic violence wasn't so well..graphic. Our classic console games as an example. Change and greater technology in video games is okay, but when that involves being able to express the violence more graphically? no, not for me. I'm just tired of it really.
