Arenafoot #1 Posted December 3, 2013 While at the ArcadeExpo in Houston, I went out to the Gameover Games retail store in town and found 2 Atari Game Program cases. I was impressed how great shape they were in for being 25+ years old - no scratches, no cracks on spine or inside the plastic. Each one holds a total of 8 cartridges - 4 on the left and 4 on the right. I bought them and brought them home and inserted 2600 game cartridges into them, only to find out that the cartridges do not fit in them like they should. They do go into the plastic but with a little extra work. I've searched the net for similar ones like mine with no avail. The cases I find online all have the brown cover with the Atari logo in the lower right corner, but mine have a huge Atari logo in the center. The inside plastic (where the games snap in) is black instead of white as others are online, and the openings are more rectangle than square in shape. Anyone have any idea what program cases these were for? And how rare are they (since I can't find a similar one online)?
Zwackery #2 Posted December 3, 2013 Maybe they are for Atari 400/800 cartridges? Post a picture when you can.

The ones made for the Atari 2600 were designed to fit Atari-produced cartridges. Third party cartridges do not fit in them properly. Some will fit, but will fall out. Others will not fit at all. The only third-party carts that I've noticed can fit into them decently are Avalon Hill releases.
Arenafoot #4 Posted December 11, 2013 Still trying to figure out if these Atari cases are actually for the 2600 or not?? The holes are bigger than the carts......... more pics at: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=704995762858261&set=ms.704995642858273.704995656191605.704995662858271.704995749524929.704995762858261.704995769524927.bps.a.687703767920794.1073741831.100000435325292&type=1&theater
Zwackery #5 Posted December 11, 2013 Looks like a legit Atari-produced Atari product but if the regular Atari 2600 carts don't fit properly (too snug), my guess is that they might be for the Atari computer line carts.
Tinman #6 Posted December 11, 2013 As I recall, the Atari computer (400/800/etc) carts were quite a bit smaller than the 2600 carts, so it seems unlikely that 2600 carts would fit at all into a holder designed for the computer carts. I believe the 5200 carts were a bit bigger than the 2600 ones, so perhaps this case is made for those?
YANDMAN #7 Posted December 11, 2013 Im not sure but aren't 5200 carts wider but not taller as they used 2600 labels but turned on their side hence why you get that slightly odd looking label layout, I would say these are legit products that for whatever reason the fit wasnt designed to be completely snug. YANDMAN #8 Posted December 11, 2013 It absolutely is legit, here is a sealed one, you can see in the pictures its exactly the same as yours.

Serious #11 Posted December 12, 2013 @ YANDMAN - That his not what he has. Here's the picture of his from the FB page, you can see that it is different: Atari cart holder origin speculate.jpg I have a few dark brown tri-fold ones. I will check them later to see if the interior is similar to these.
Arenafoot #12 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Sorry here: ataricase.JPGataricase2.JPGataricase3.JPG Yeah that is the only one I keep finding online......I can't match mine to anything on the web............ the holes in the case you have pictured are the same size (from what I can tell) as an 2600 cart.....my cases have 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" openings (just measured them) and an 2600 cart is 3 3/4" x 3 1/4" - so there is an extra 1" in height of opening...... Serious #13 Posted December 14, 2013 I have a few dark brown tri-fold ones. I will check them later to see if the interior is similar to these. I just looked, and neither of my dark brown ones resemble this one. They do not have the large Atari logo, and they don't have the crinkle-cut edges.
