I personally would love to see some new Sega Genesis and even some 32X games come out on the Homebrew scene...especially the 32X because a lot of the great games that were slated for it never seemed to materialize, but exist in some form.

I just hate that homebrew games cost so darned much money. As it is now, when a new homebrew Intellivision game is released, it can cost between $55-$75, which is a far cry from the $30 Mattel was asking, and the $20 Intv, Corp. was asking...

So, while I want to see more Sega Genesis and 32X titles, the question is not if I want to see releases, but rather, can I afford the releases...???

Hi guys,

Anthony...

Then you have missed quite a bit. :)

Super Fighter Team followed with two more English versions of before Chinese/Japanese RPGs.

In early 2013 "Oh Mummy Genesis" was released by Spanish team 1985alternativo. They followed it later this year with Uwol - The Quest for Money. Both are simple, addictive oldschool games. TBD from them is Antarex, a shoot'em up.

We (meaning Watermelon) released Pier Solar and the Great Architects; the first all new (not just newly localized) cartridge game since 1998. It's an RPG, and stands as the first ever 64-MBit cart on the system and the first one to utilize the Sega CD for optional improved music. After the successful Genny version we launches a Kickstarter, and now it's also coming to Dreamcast, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, WiiU, Linux, Windows and Ouya early 2014. Also a reprint of the Genny original (possibly the last one) is available for pre-order on our website.

For March 2014 we have also scheduled the release of our next Genny game: A brawler with RPG touch called ProjectY.

As you see, there have been no less than 5 cartridges released since Beggar Prince, with two more announced that we will ptobably see in 2014. And who knows what is in the works that has not yet been shown. :)

I just hate that homebrew games cost so darned much money. As it is now, when a new homebrew Intellivision game is released, it can cost between $55-$75, which is a far cry from the $30 Mattel was asking, and the $20 Intv, Corp. was asking...

I can totally see your point, Ashley. I myself have missed out on most homebrews because I couldn't afford them.

But there are some things to take into account: For one, 30$ in Mattel's days is not the same as 30$ today. I just used this online calculator quickly: 30$ in 1982 when the Inty was around is equal to 72.60$ today: http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

The money is just not worth as much anymore.

And the second thing is: Mattel would have 100 000 cartridges manufactured. Nowadays it is more like 200 copies per game. As you probably know from many things, the more you buy, the cheaper it becomes. To get so few cartridges manufactured as today is just much more expensive. Back when Mattel did it they even added a big profit margin, whereas the profit of people doing new games for old consoles now is very small. But you can't sell them at a loss.

For Pier Solar, e made a huge first print run of several 1000 copies because we were sure there are many Genesis- fans around. We were right, and with making no profit at all we managed to sell the game at 35$ shipped worldwide. Cartridge, cardboard box, full color manual, poster, stickers, and a CD. The later, smaller (which would have been more expensive anyway due to smaller numbers) runs became more expensive, also because we finally wanted to get some financial backing for new projects. And because what we saw with our 35$ game was that many people bought it, only to sell it on eBay for huge prices once it was sold out. The extra low price tag we chose did not benefit gamers, it benefit resellers. So we no longer sell games for no profit, but a small one.

Hi guys,

Well I'm happy to see that the Genesis is doing fine. I just signed up to WM's newsletter. Looks like a good place for the Genesis fans as well!

Hi guys,

I see that Super Fighter Team is still taking pre-orders for Nightmare Busters for the Super NES! Anybody getting that game?

Hi guys,

I was viewing Oh Mummy Genesis, Antarex and Uwol. Really wasn't that impressed with them (IMO). I think these 1985alternativo fellas need to work a little better on future titles. But I give them credit for releasing some new Genny games

However, Pier Solar looks incredible and wiling to get the reprint version. Very impressed on the works of this game by WM! Think I will stick and look up more information on these guys.

Thank you 108 stars on the update on the Genesis game!

All I saw was a preorder for the Dreamcast. Any chance of another Genesis cart or did I miss out?

What is the price you want to see Ashley? I'm thinking more and more that a SegaCD release is the way to go. Without committing to 50-100 carts the best deal I can find as a homebrewer is $35 per cart. That's not including making my own labels, manuals and boxes.

FWIW, the Inflation Calculator says that:

$30 in 1980 dollars = $85.03 today

$30 in 1985 dollars = $65.12 today

$30 in 1990 dollars = $53.61 today

So a price between $55-75 is fairly close to matching inflation -- though don't get me wrong, I definitely feel the pinch, especially when homebrews pass the $50 mark.

Please look here. Go into the Pier Solar category, and select from this drop down menu:

The Reprints are the Genesis-version. Reprint includes English, German and French language in-game, Reprint_EP includes English, Spanish and Portugese.

Please keep in mind it is a pre-order and that the game will be shipped sometime in the first quarter 2014 most likely. This is our 4th or 5th reprint of the game, and demand has finally slowed down, so we will likely have to wait for our ProjectY release so we can manufacture the cartridges together. Pre-ordering now would be wise though as I can't guarantee we will be taking pre-orders up until then.

There is a member of Nintendoage.com and Segaage.com that ran a recent homebrew of Fix it Felix Jr. (from Wreck it Ralph) that had 2 print runs. i have a feeling hes getting ready for a new homebrew coming up ;)

Hi guys,

$59 bucks for the reprint sounds decent to me. Considering that you have developers that are making games for systems that are discontinued. $50 for the Dreamcast E,U,J versions and for the PC. Think that's fair either way

I thought there was a Japanese effort to make a Genesis Fix It Felix. I know a programmer who is doing his own port. Not sure if it's the same guy mentioned in the NintendoAge links.

I still think we should have a Genesis Programming section. I'd love to help those who want to create new games learn BasiEgaXorz (a BASIC compiler similar to batari BASIC)

I totally second that.

I'm toying with the idea to try my hand at programming once more, either on Lynx with LX.NET's turoial (but that would be in C which is more complex) or for Mega Drive with BasiEgaXorx.

If I could get to a point where I can create a shooter/platformer with some nice, colorful cartoon visuals I'd be happy. I don't need anything very fast or with tons of special effects.

Having a coding section here sure would help. I think AA should allow it; after all it doesn't hurt, and we have sections for other things that aren't huge topics as well. :)
