decath6431 #1 Posted December 10, 2013 I apologize if this has been covered before, I didn't see but am pretty new to the forums so I appreciate your bearing with me. I'm in Ohio but have been using a French Canadian console to play on. Works great and I love the power source compared to the US one. I recently got a module 1 and it isn't working; the 2600 games act like they want to power on but I get various garbled screens. The CV itself works great so I know that isn't the issue. My question is this: should there be any issues of compatibility between my Canadian CV and US Module 1? I just read about cleaning the mod contacts with a toothbrush and alcohol and will try that this evening but am wondering if there is anything logistically that isn't compatible with the two units. Thanks in advance for your help, glad to have found this place:)
ColecoDan #2 Posted December 10, 2013 Supposedly the french colecovision has a specific expansion port so if you have an expansion module 1 that is not a french one then it might not work. Eduardo had to fix his design for French secam colecovisions as he was calling it so that is why I imagine the expansion module 1 has to be different as well. Pixelboy #3 Posted December 10, 2013 US and Canadian consoles are essentially the same (it's mostly just a question of different silver labels on the front side of the console) so there shouldn't be any compatibility issue between the EM#1 and either consoles. It's more likely your EM#1 itself has a problem of some kind.

I thought eduardo said the pin placement was different, wouldn't that mean they would have to have different kinds to account for the different pin placement or do you think they just internally adjust for that? Don't know myself just asking?

Don't know myself just asking? I believe you're confusing french-canadian with plain french, Dan. In France they had the CV console with SCART TV output, and that one has the different expansion pin-out. decath6431 has a french-canadian console, which is the same as the US console internally. Ah got it thanks. Back then I knew it didn't relate to me so just ignored it
decath6431 #7 Posted December 11, 2013 Thanks to everyone who replied. I tried scrubbing the contacts with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol but didn't seem to make any difference. The module seems to fit well, I'm guessing it's a bad unit.
