Collecting Goals 2014

Title

 

On a low budget, so my list is small:

 

- fill holes in my ColecoVision collection

- add at least one arcade cab to my collection

Rebuild the handle bar controller on my Paperboy, Re-Cap about 12 monitors, Completely inventory and reorganize my Arcade parts and my console/game collection. Looks like a work year for me!

Fill in my Atari 7800 collection (I'm getting past the easy commons now) and my A8 collection.

 

Build an Atari 7800 and A8 "all in one" stand like my NES one.

 

Play more games!!!

Finally get rid of one or both of the systems I just don't play (Jaguar, Lynx), along with the associated games.

 

Find some more fun but unusual games for the VCS and/or the A8.

 

Keep up with the homebrew scenes for CV, 2600, 7800, and Intellivision.

If I complete that I'll work on to completing my Dreamcast fighter collection.

completing my collection of LSL games for Atari ST by buying a copy of Leisure Suit Larry III

And buying a power supply for a ColecoVision I've had for almost 4 years now, untested...

I completed my Intellivision collection, so my only thoughts are continuing collecting the Homebrews for it.

 

And maybe, just maybe, trying to complete my Sega Genesis collection, or start collecting for the Atari 7800.

Play as many roms of games as I can and write down the ones I complete on a list, then don't buy any until December next year or January 2015.

-Complete Atari text and pic label collections (I'm about one or two titles away, each)
-Knock out a few of the rare silver label games
-Find an Atari Corp. Picture Label Star Ship reissue (I saw a photo of one recently, I forget where...I'd never even heard of one before)
-Rescue On Fractalus (5200)
-Burgertime (Aquarius)
-Speedway/Tag, Gunfighter/Moonship Battle, Biorhythm (Studio II)
-Body Slam: Super Pro Wrestling (Intellivision)
-Fill in gaps in my Channel F, 7800, CoCo, and other collections
-Get a pair of CX78 joypads
-Get a bunch of XEGS carts (I only have the two that originally came with it)
-Actually play a damn game once in a while

I'll think of more later, I'm sure.

Finish off my Dreamcast and Castlevania collections, buy some parts for some of my pinball machines, and invest in my fourth pinball machine. Maybe get a videogame console or two I don't have in my collection, boxed and complete (Virtual Boy, Jag, CD32, something like that).

Trim my modern gaming library by at least half, two-thirds would be even better. Also, take a hard look at my classic gaming collection and make some long-term decisions about what I want to keep and what I can let go.

-Pay $5-10/retro game (NES and before)

-Focus on Sega Saturn

-Scoop up cheap 3ds and WiiU titles before the resale hype sets in

I'm pretty happy with my current collection, but I do have some goals. In no particular order:

• Get an XM and slowly, slowly, order the best homebrew games from AtariAge.
• Get my 7800 AV modded
• Buy a PSP
• Wistully long for a Turbo Duo
• Maybe, maybe, get a ColecoVision or 360

My main goal is to catalog my Atari 2600 collection and the condition of all the items in it.

 

Since I have not been able to find a condition guide that I like, I created my own in preparation for this. (Available here.) I had already done this a while back for manuals, but now have extended this to boxes and carts as well.

I dared opening it. OOh yeah.

 

 

 

Rather different from all other carts obviously; still it's labeled "Fairchild Memory systems 1978".

Is it just a copyright? Or was this cart made by Fairchild/Zircon; and so, does it means that this cart was planned for the US market, maybe even made, but was sold in europe only?

- continue to improve my gameroom

- actually play more games*, especially with my 8 year old

- catalog and value my collection

- attend at least one major convention

- finish my Intellivision CIB collection

- not miss out on homebrews that I would enjoy

- find another Imagic poster or two

- get within 5 games of having a complete US released Turbo Grafx collection

- condense a great deal of my extra stuff

- finish the game I started writing about 5 years ago

 

* I can't believe how many games I've acquired but haven't even played

Money is also short...

 

Grow my Jaguar and TurboGrafx collection by buying out the stock at a local store. (It'll probably be over the course of a few paydays, but I don't think that there's much demand for Jag and Turbo games around here.)

 

Get another N64 controller and grow the game collection some.

 

Buy an original Playstation and some memory cards and try to buy back some of the games I had back then.

 

Possibly order a power adapter with the correct ratings so the guys over on the Jaguar board don't send assassins to my house.

My goals for 2014...

 

 

I was thinking about the collecting goals thread for 2016 and wanted to see how I did on my 2015 goals. Turned out that I didn't respond to the 2015 goal thread but I took a look at my 2014 post. I'll just assume this was a 2 year plan

 

- continue to improve my gameroom

 

 

- It's stuffed with stuff now but I think it's marginally better. I framed and hung my 3 SwordQuest t-shirts. I also purchased a watch display case which now show my video game related watches and other smaller items.

 

- actually play more games*, especially with my 8 year old

 

 

- He'll be 10 next week. We mix it up between some newer stuff (like Mario Karts for the 3DS) and a bunch of Intellivision/Atari games. He really likes to help clean and test carts.

 

- catalog and value my collection

 

 

Started but unfinished - I moved my lists into a database and have looked up values for lots of carts but there's a long way to go before I could check this one off in good faith.

 

- attend at least one major convention

 

 

Hmmm, nothing major but I did attend the Cleveland show both of the last two years and CORGs show here in Columbus.

 

- finish my Intellivision CIB collection

 

 

- got the last boxed game I needed, Word Fun, on Spring Break in Phoenix in 2014

 

- not miss out on homebrews that I would enjoy

 

 

- I've been able to acquire most of them in the past two years

 

- find another Imagic poster or two

 

 

- Yep but always on the lookout for more. Let me know if you have some you're willing to sell or trade!

- Nope. Other than finding some lost notes, I'm not any closer. Oh well, I guess I'll claim that I'm doing this for Eric in order to slow down my release schedule lol.

 

 

Not too bad overall. Let's see what 2016 brings...
