RobR #1 Posted December 13, 2013 I was perusing the trivia section and came across this: "Starpath was able to make Frogger for the VCS, because Parker Brothers didn't own the magnetic media rights." I have a question: How is a 2600 cartridge considered "magnetic media"? It certainly has no tape in it
+Special Teams #2 Posted December 13, 2013 The 2600 isn't magnetic media, it's the cassette that Starpath used that is. They were able to make a cassette version because Parker Bros didn't own the rights to that type of game vehicle.
yllawwally #3 Posted December 13, 2013 The starpath version was sold on cassette, and required a supercharger to run. All starpath games were like this. You would connect a cassette player to the supercharger, and play frogger on the cassette player. The supercharger was a really nice gadget for the 2600. It was a ram cartridge that was loaded via sound from cassette tapes. This allowed the games to be significantly more complex.
