Serguei2 #1 Posted December 15, 2013 I never thought Atari would release 2600 with a gamepad unstead a joystick. And 128 games included and has a game port to play more games.

godzillajoe #4 Posted December 15, 2013 I think the "game port" is just the cartridge port, nothing fancy about that And those controllers were later shipped with 7800 units in Europe. I have a bunch of them. And you can still get them from Best and elsewhere At the end they were probably mixing and matching to get rid of inventory

The last time I saw an 7800 in the stores were joysticks.

Lord Helmet #7 Posted December 15, 2013 I have a set of the Atari 7800 gamepads. IMHO the dpad is crappy (unless you still have the little mini stick that screws into it) and the buttons are really far apart. I rewired an NES pad and find that it's much better if you really want to use a gamepad on the 2600.
sega_SHARK #8 Posted December 15, 2013 I'm using one of these 7800 pads on a Colecovision. It works great for Defender.
godzillajoe #9 Posted December 15, 2013 I rewired my pad to have the stick on the right. It's slightly better that way. But in general they're kinda crappy. The ProLine controllers were no better. Why did Atari forget how to make a good controller starting with the 5200?

And yes I remember hearing about the 2600 clone with 128 games sold to the Arabian market...

AtariLeaf #13 Posted December 17, 2013 It would be a great start to buy an 2600 with 128 free games in cartridges. One of my best finds was back around 2004 or 2005 - at a yard sale found a 6-switch woody with 120 games for $10. That's close to 128

Actually the mini stick makes the dpad less precise and you can hit the wrong direction more often to my experience. It depends on the type of game though. I myself got used to the gamepad that came with my Junior. Surely it is not as good as my Mega Drive gamepad but it gives you extra pleasure to play the Atari console using the Atari gamepad. Too bad they did not utilize the second button as separate on the 2600. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WtSfxWxz6q0/UonRVG_DCeI/AAAAAAAAAK4/A0jPcnjqHEQ/s1600/HarmonyJunoFirst.jpg
