Paul Westphal
I don't care about how much time or hard work you guys spent on this, developing, testing, converting..etc. I just want a FREE game. And one more thing... I hate recycling plastic. P.S. - I also enjoy gasoline, food, education, and all services provided to me, FOR FREE Good luck trying to sell your game, I wait for it's piracy. +DamonicFury
Giving this another bump. I would still love to buy a copy. I hope the developers weren't scared away by a few negative posts. There's plenty of 5200 fans who would love to see this released!

82atari5200
It seems that they were. In the decade or so I've been on this board, I've encountered some of the smartest, generous, and kindest people. I've also run across some of the biggest douche bags ever. In reading through this topic I can see why they will never release another Atari game ever. Giving this another bump. I would still love to buy a copy. Amityville315
I love Venture, but the 2600 version was lackluster. Id be very interested in a 5200 version!
scobb
The XE version this team programmed is a lot of fun...prob better than the Colecovision version. Worth getting if you have an XE.
PhoenixMoonPatrol
Use to play this over at a friend's house after school a few times each week. At first the game seems dull, but once you get into the challenge of trying to master all levels it becomes damn addicting. Not the best looking game for the 2600 but a good one that kept me coming back many times, lots of replay value. I too would be interested in this game once available for the 5200. peteym5
Hello everyone I am the programmer of Venture on the Atari 8-bit. I am sad to announce that Atlantis Games Group had gone out of business. KJMANN's working relationship between myself and Video 61 is no more. I am still working with Video 61 with projects I already had in progress. For people not aware of the history of Venture on the 8-bit, things really got heated on that thread over the subject downloading the game. After Venture was released for the 8-bit systems at $50 in November 2013. I started playing around with compression routines that was intended for other ongoing games, and got it work. I suggested to Video 61 and KJMANN around March 2014 to compress it and put it on a 16K cartridge that can sold for $40. They liked the ideal and it took me a few weeks and it worked. Just to let everyone know even before Venture was released I expressed concerns about trying to sell it for $50.. I also wanted to have the 16K version release sooner, however KJMANN wanted to wait until the Portland Retro Gaming Expo last year. Video 61 and myself had formed a new team to figure out how to do things. One problem is we need to track down some 32K blank cartridge boards. We only have 16K ones. I know I mentioned compression, but the problem there it needs RAM to expand back into. Currently it needs over 20K to expand just expand the program section and other 6K for video, variables, etc. The 5200 only has 16K RAM. Venture 5200 is on the back burner right now as I am busy with other games. I know a few will suggest some places to get parts, cartridges, and suggestions and I will be happy to hear them. As long as it does not cost us a lot of money to get parts in the first place so we can still have a target price of $40. I had done some experiments on packing down code and data using less memory space with Venture and other games and that is an ongoing process.

CPUWIZ has a 32k board. It's what I used for my last batch of Pac-man Arcade carts.
peteym5
How much does he want a small batch for, and have to see if the board is populated minus the EPROMS. Need to see the image and specs of the board also.
Hyperboy
Best bet would be to contact cpuwiz via pm. Sent from my finger.
tep392
I don't have pic's. The board isn't populated and you need to add a 7408 and capacitor in addition to the EPROM. You'll need to contact CPUWIZ for price.
+DamonicFury
Venture 5200 is on the back burner right now as I am busy with other games. This is great news that the game is merely "on the back burner" and not completely cancelled. Thank you for the update! I'll be interested in a copy whenever it might become available.

Sorry to hear about setbacks but glad that Venture is not abandoned. And I say this as someone who never liked Venture back in the day but I went to the Arcade Expo in Banning with my brother and a friend of ours who loved that game and he showed me the error of my ways. Now I can't wait for a 5200 version.

ledzep
Which one did you play at the expo? The arcade version or the Atari 8bit version? Mitch Oh, the arcade version. I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the joystick (my Venture-loving friend seemed to think it was off, too) but that was a very hard game to figure out, we had a lot of fun dying and trying again and again - "No way, one more time, I'm going to clear that room!" It's just a function of growing up during the heyday of arcade games, I always assumed they'd always be around and that all arcade games would be cool. Not true. First, as games got more modern (late '80s and beyond) they got worse (looked a little better, played like crap). And then arcade games in general fell out of favor as PCs and consoles got more powerful. I can't really get into any game newer than around 1984 or so. But that meant that I ignored a lot of games that I just assumed I could get to later. I suppose that makes going to things like the Arcade Expo and California Extreme even more fun, playing an old game like it just showed up, new to me and a challenge to play vs. knowing instantly how to play every game in the room. I mean, it's not like people are programming new arcade games to run on real hardware (though they should, goddammit!).
Goochman
Venture Arcade is a hard game to master. The stick control has a slight delay in moving Winky around - that causes alot of headaches getting the arrow off correctly. Most home versions dont have this and hence shooting it alot easier and more controlled. I hve yet to play a console version that controls the same as the arcade.
bikeguychicago
Considering most new Intellivision carts are running $60-70 without shipping, $50, seems like a bargain.
CannibalCat
Yeah I hope this ends up seeing the light... looks like a great port. Would be willing to shell out $50 easily for it.
