**PENDING/ON HOLD** Free: Samsung HD CRT, 4x3 television (DC/MD/VA area)

Recommended Posts

Last night I upgraded to a modern flatscreen/LCD television. As a result, I am looking to part ways with my old Samsung, 27" (I believe), CRT HD television. It is in a 4X3 screen format, good for classic games, and it goes up to 1080i for HD content. It has one HDMI port, one set of component inputs, one standard/composite connection, another composite/s-video combination, and your typical RF input.

I was going to post this on Craigslist for $20 bucks or something along those lines, but any AtariAge member in the Northern Virginia, DC or Maryland area that wants it can have it for free (Heck, stay for a while and play some games while you're at it when you come to pick it up). The thing weighs about 100 pounds and I can obviously help you carry it to your car.

I don't really want to part with it, but I have limited space in my apartment and I've got nowhere to store it. Old platforms look decent enough through it, but if you have a xRGB or other kind of RGB to HDMI upscaler, this set is for you. The 1080i resolution is extremely sharp on it and absolutely beautiful, and classic games running through a high quality upscaler will look amazing on it.

Anyway, shoot me a PM if you are interested in it. I have no photos at the moment, but this is what it looks like from the front (although mine I believe goes back farther): http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1032237

Here is a shot I took of the front last night. The game is a Wii U title running in widescreen mode, so technically it's letterboxed to keep the aspect ratio. There is a setting you can change in the TV that will force the image into a 4X3 format, eliminating the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. It actually works pretty well for certain games, surprisingly, particularly racing games (like the Need for Speed Most Wanted). Normal 4X3 content from other inputs (component, composite, s-video, etc.) will automatically display in the full 4X3 screen space.

*edit: I shrunk the picture down to a reasonable size.

That's an awesome CRT! The Samsung SlimFit was kind-of the highest state of evolution of the ol' CRT - super-thing (for a CRT!!!) in that it didnt' stick out in the back but 1/2 of what a conventional set would, and could display HD and had HDMI input. I applaud whoever gets this.

Now, Austin, tell us about your new TV!!!

Haha! It's nothing too special, just a 42" LG HD television (don't recall the model number off the top of my head), 1080p and 120hz. It's a nice upgrade (from a screen-size perspective) over the beast I posted above though! :)
