HiassofT
True.. Basically, there is no stack, and you can't use ZP-indirect addressing... Keep state in registers and go to it! Definitely the hard way to go around it, but no hardware mods are the way to go if you can! I posted some info about the 1050 Turbo just about 2 months ago: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/218319-why-single-density-and-then-whey-enhanced-density/page-3?do=findComment&comment=2864878 The source code (link at the end of the posting, just get the software_1050_turbo.zip) is a very good and interesting bedtime reading so long, Hias
+Larry
I hate to be too pragmatic, but isn't that ram chip really cheap and easy to do? I have 1050 Doubler drives (and an Indus "Doubler" -- thanks MrMartain!), and they are fine... just IMO a bit less convenient than the 1050 Happy, but then I'm a dyed-in-the-wool MyDos user, so I know nothing about disk-based Sparta issues. (BTW, no one has mentioned the Super Archiver which is functionally a Doubler on steroids.) -Larry
Bryan
I hate to be too pragmatic, but isn't that ram chip really cheap and easy to do? Only if you're comfortable soldering.
Binarygeek
Hi all Anybody know where I can get the US Doubler chip? Also, I am on the lookout for an Indus drive. Thanks Rick
guus.assmann
Hello All, The MegaSpeedy can emulate both US-Doubler (Without soldering) and the Archiver (With some soldering) And they're almost ready to be delivered. Just the displays are missing still. BR/ Guus

BillC
Hi Thanks for the reply, but I want specifically the US Doubler. Regards, Rick B&C/myatari.com does list the US Doubler for $29.95, I don't know whether they still have any.
Mathy
Hello guys IIRC, you can build a US Doubler yourself. The docs, including which parts you need, should be on the internet. I found them years ago, but have no clue where I left them. Sincerely Mathy
BillC
http://www.realdos.net/US%20Doubler.html I tried making a USD buffer once just to see if I could, but it didn't work. I figured I killed one of the 6810P.
+bf2k+
I made a few back in the day... I don't have the original doc I used but the one in the link above looks right.

+Larry
Here is another one (scroll down a bit). Plus it has several other useful mods. http://wolfpup.net/atarimods/ -Larry
flashjazzcat
Slightly OT, but where do people get 2732 Eproms from these days? They're insanely expensive on eBay. Can a pin-compatible flash chip be used instead (say, for a US Doubler mod)?
Paul Westphal
I have a 1050 rebuilt with the US Doubler in it for sale. Www.eightbitfix.com.

Can a pin-compatible flash chip be used instead (say, for a US Doubler mod)? There is nothing current that is directly pin compatible, you'd have to build a small PCB.. I have a stack of old 27CX641 EPROMS, that are 8Kx8, but in a 24 pin package. Very useful for this as with the addition of a wire I can fix 8K into the same socket... flashjazzcat
That reminds me: Bob (IIRC) sent me some Eprom adapter boards for the A8's OS ROM slot a while back... I wonder if they'd be any use.

guus.assmann
Hello All, With a little bit of work, a modern Flash-Rom can also be used to replace a 2732. Just a bit of wireing to connect the extra pins to some fixed values. But of course larger Eproms will do the same and with the same kind of extra connections. That's one of the advantages of a Jedec-compattible pin-layout. BR/ Guus

flashjazzcat
2732s arrived, brand new and blank but my programmer doesn't have enough juice to handle them. Anyone (preferably in the UK) with a programmer capable of writing 2732s who's willing to write the USD binary to a blank 2732 if I send it to them and cover the postage both ways? MrMartian
If you have no takers on that side of the pond, I'd be happy to donate a 2732 to you!
