Is there a point where the ability to acquire Nostalgia wears off?

Recommended Posts

does it wear off or does it become harder to acquire new nostalgia or does it just take time?

I think the fact generation Y is discovering the 2600 is proof nostalgia can be acquired. I'm constantly discovering systems that I hardly knew as a kid. Why can't I imagine I was rich enough to own a Sinclair QL back in the day? :)

I've been collecting on and off for over 20 years and the original reason was nostalgia. Since I've been collecting for so long I'm actually nostalgic about those first years of collecting. I'm getting nostalgic about my original nostalgia.

Nostalgia is I think defined by good memories from an era.

You acquire nostalgie as you get older; but discovering a new old system isn't nostalgia. It's more of a simple joy and emotion of being dragged in the past, but in a past you never knew. A kind of "pseudo-nostalgia" if you really want to go that far.

I tend to jump in and out of my hobbies. I will likely collect video game stuff for many years to come (rest of my life) but other collections will take the priority off and on.

In 5 years time it is possible to gain new nostalgia for now if you give yourself good enough times and your life starts to suck or be different later. Or if you move that can trigger it too when you start to miss your old place.

I don't know about nostalgia because I never had one of these systems originally, but I always wanted to try an Atari 2600 by myself and I ended collecting a lot of cartridges and several consoles...
