Couples and love stories in classic games?

Hi there,

I'm looking for classic 80s computer games where you had love stories (like a guy who rescues his girlfriend and such) as the central story point of the game.

For instance:

* Popeye (with Popeye and Olive)

* Donkey Kong (dunno -- Mario and Pauline).

* Karateka (starring unnamed Hero and Princess Mariko)

* Monkey Island (ok, no 80s game, but here with Guybrush and Elaine)

What other games could be named here?

Jungle Hunt - although the Atari version doesn't have the kiss scene from the arcade game.

BC's Quest - his wife is in the game, no idea if it has a finish or she plays any part other than trying to club him.

Outrun - a girl is in the car, although neither character exactly does very much.

hmmm...

* Ms. Pac-Man

* Alley Cat

* Frogger (at least it gives you a bonus for 'coupling')

* Zorro

* Snokie

* Salmon Run

* Pharaoh's Pyramid

* The Princess and the Frog

* Drol

* Smurf (AFAIR)

* Defender of the Crown

* many adventures like 'Lapis Philosophorum'

* the bunch of Mario & Princess Peach games

+ the attached Basic game 'Jumper' (two cockroaches in love) which I couldn't find anywhere else (to jump press fire + direction up/down)

Quasimodo fantastic game.

Gwobby's Adventure See the start for the kidnap (you can rescue her if you get to level 50).

Also in the sequel Gwobby Strikes Back! and in the original Gwobby Jr you're out to rescue his cherished football in his prepubescent days [though sadly you can't actually achieve this aim] ;)

Kitten: http://www.pdiefenbach.de/download/HappyTrashSoftwareAtari8bit.zip

with 20 levels by Peter & Alexander Diefenbach. Collect enough flowers to get to your love... (Note: She will kill you, if you did not collect enough flowers!) There is also the type-in version with only 2 or 3 levels available, e.g. here: http://a8.fandal.cz/detail.php?files_id=2188 which appeared in this german magazine:

and the game looks like this:

Since the game came with an editor, I once created 30 levels for it (available in the HappyTrashSoftware zipfile above). -Andreas Koch.

I wouldn't count Ms. Pac-Man. There is a love story there, told in the intermissions, but it's not the "central story point of the game." OutRun is arguable. In the original game it seems she's just along for the ride, but in the sequels it becomes more of a thing to impress the girl or risk losing her.

If Kangaroo counts with "parental love," then Donkey Kong Junior should also.

How about...

Double Dragon (C-64, Atari ST, Amiga, DOS) - You don't see a lot of plot development between the beginning and ending, but the quest is to rescue Billy's girlfriend Marian.

Final Fight (C-64, Atari ST, Amiga, others) - Pretty much the same story as Double Dragon. Cody, one of the three fighters, is out to save his girlfriend Jessica. Jessica happens to be the daughter of the mayor, also one of the three fighters.

Ghosts 'n' Goblins (C-64, C-16, Amiga) - Side scroller, rescue the girl, lather, rinse, repeat. Here it's Sir Arthur out to save Princess Prin Prin.
