What's a hole doing in my 5200?

Recommended Posts

I picked up a 5200 on eBay last week. Got a good deal on it. It's much nicer than the one I have now, so I'll lose that one and keep this one.

There's one question I have, though, if anyone can enlighten me. This new one is a 4-port unit that, right next to the channel switch, has a rectangular hole in it. Inside is a triangular sticker that says "ATMC Made in Taiwan." I don't want to open it, but I wondered if anyone knows what this hole might have been designed for. It's clearly intended to be part of the unit--the hole isn't "after-market" in nature, if you will--but it clearly serves no purpose, and my original 4-port 5200 doesn't have this hole. Thanks for the info.

I posted this before but it got scrubbed when Atariage went down today.

Here's a photo of the 4-port bottom part of the case. Atari mixed and matched the two-port and four-port cases at times. That's why you sometimes see a two port case on a four-port board.

I always wondered about this, too. I guess it makes sense, considering that there are 2-port models out there with 4 controller ports cut out of the casing.
