Intellivision box size

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a Intellivision and the box is smaller then the other ones I have. Does anyone know if this is a later or newer version.

IIRC the older, the larger. The oldest ones had large styrofoam end pieces and referenced the keyboard component. Some show Poker, some show NFL Football. Sylvania also used this large box.

Later, the box was trimmed down and the styrofoam end caps were probably only half as large. Tandyvision, Mattel, and Bandai used this footprint.

Sears was larger than these, but I can't recall if it was the same size as the older large Intellivision boxes.

I think that the INTV System III and Super Pro system also used this small size, and at some point switched to an accordian style cardboard thing with a die-cut Intellivision profile that slid around the edges of the unit - or simple cardboard endcaps, to secure the console in the box.

Finally, there are also some smaller sized boxes (same as the smaller Mattel / INTV Corp / etc.) that seem to have a big sticker on them that does not cover the entire cardboard surface.

Not mentinoed: The multitudes of international variants.

I'm sure cmart has an Intellivision Box Variations thread ready to go. :D It was something I've always planned to do for the ol' website, but have not gotten around to. I'm sure cmart has waaaay, waaay more variations than I do. I dropped out of that game back around 2003 or 2004 -- it just got too expensive.

What Steve said. I actually do have all the pics taken for a hardware thread but I think there's around 50 so I haven't been in a rush to put verbiage to it and get the thread done. :)

I suspect the pics are the easy part. Cmart doesn't halfass the verbiage :)

Actually organizing the pics was harder than normal this time due to the size of all the boxes. That said, describing what's in the pics will take a while. I may have to break it down into a few parts.
