Sega Saturn modding?

Recommended Posts

I have modded hundreds of them, and it is not all that hard on the model 2 as long as you are somewhat handy with a solder iron. And, you need the modchip. Check Racketboy for these. They have gone up in price significantly in the past few years.

There are separate region and backup mods that can be done. Modding a Saturn to play imports is pretty easy and only requires a switch (or multiplexer from an old Genesis 3-button controller), but modding one to play backup copies does require a modchip to be installed. Both are terribly simple to do. Modchips of varying build quality exist; try not to get a flimsy crappola one.

If you want to only play imports, just get a Game Shark or an Action Replay. If burned games is what you are mainly trying to do, then yeah, a modchip is about the only way to go.
