Mad Hatter
For those interested, my vintage computer BBS list has been updated as of today. Majority of the boards are TELNET, although there are still a few dialup systems left operating on vintage hardware. http://tinyurl.com/VintageComputerBBSList
doctorclu
That is cool, thanks Mad Hatter! Any chance you could post the text version here as well? Edited February 2, 2014 by doctorclu
Mad Hatter
I attached the .TXT file to this reply. I tried to copy and paste it into the body of the message but the margins and spacing were all messed up and it looked like crap. ianoid
What is everyone who is dialing's experience with using VOIP lines for 2400 baud and lower connections? I have VOIP and I doubt I'd want to get copper just for the occasional online indulgence. I think I heard some VOIP modems work better than others? Mad Hatter
I can't speak personally about VOIP since I have never used it; I still have a copper-wire land-line. There are not many dial-up boards left these days, maybe 25 or so total around the country, most of which also have Telnet access. Basically everything you mentioned regarding VOIP is correct, at least from what I have heard from some of the guys who use it. Most reliable connections are 2400 baud or less, but the main factor seems to be the modem which is being used. There are a couple users who make successful connections to my BBS @ 2400 with a MagicJack. I also have another user who calls with Google Voice and an Asterisk PBX. His successful connections seems to run around 50%.
icbrkr
FYI - Payton's board (Da Board) is definitely 'up'. He's designing the software from scratch so it's sort of unstable. And thanks for adding mine!
Mad Hatter
I wasn't able to connect to Da Board when I was updating the list. I will give it a shot again then move it to the appropriate section next time I update the list.
